Computer-aided farming system and method

An image projection system and method of use at a venue, e.g., a sports or entertainment arena, having an area or field into which an image is to be projected by the system. The system includes laser devices and associated components, e.g., a computer-based controller, for generating and projecting the image into the field. The projection system additionally comprises an override subsystem, e.g., infrared transmitters and associated detectors, forming an enclosure surrounding the field for determining if a living being has entered the field and for providing an electrical signal indicative thereof. This signal may be used automatically or manually for effecting the termination of the display.

A crane collision avoidance system is disclosed. One example includes a load locator to determine a location of a load of a crane and provide the location information to a mapping module. In addition, a map receiver module procures a map of a site and provides the map to the mapping module. A tag scanner scans the site for one or more tags defining an obstacle and provides the obstacle information to a mapping module. The mapping module combines the location information, the map and the obstacle information into a user accessible information package that is displayed on a graphical user interface.

Crane collision avoidance

A system for tracking movable crane components to assist maneuvering the crane within a jobsite includes a computing device having a processor which calculates a 3D geospatial location and orientation of a 3D coordinate system for an upperworks that has an origin chosen along an axis of rotation between the upperworks and a lowerworks. The processor calculates a 3D position of the origin of the upperworks based on local coordinates and transforms the 3D position of the origin of the upperworks from the local coordinates to global 3D coordinates using absolute position sensing data from first and second positioning sensors attached to the crane (for instance on the upperworks and the hook, respectively) and using global 3D coordinates specific to the jobsite where the crane is located. The upperworks 3D coordinate system is useable to determine line segments in the upperworks 3D coordinate system for various movable components.

Crane maneuvering assistance

A laser transmitter emits a beam which scans about a scanning axis to effect a curtain of light which defines a boundary of a working space. Photosensors mounted on the outboard portion of a crane or other construction equipment generate warning signals to the construction equipment operator and other nearby personnel whenever these photosensors move into the light curtain. Additional curtain sensing equipment positioned to intercept the rotating laser beam with each cycle of rotation develops an alarm signal which activates an alarm horn and/or alarm light whenever the laser transmitter fails to provide the light curtain. The additional curtain sensing equipment is mounted an appropriate distance from the laser transmitter so that such additional sensing equipment will not interfere with the reception of the light curtain by the photosensors on the crane, and the laser transmitter and the additional curtain sensing equipment are mounted several feet above the ground to prevent foot traffic and vehicle traffic from producing false indications of a laser transmitter failure by intercepting the light curtain.
