Furfural inhibits growth by limiting sulfur assimilation in ethanologenic Escherichia coli strain LY180.
Elliot N. Miller,Laura R. Jarboe,Peter C. Turner,Priti Pharkya,Lorraine P. Yomano,Sean W. York,David Nunn,Keelnatham T. Shanmugam,Lonnie O. Ingram +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, mRNA microarrays of an ethanologenic strain of Escherichia coli (LY180) were compared immediately prior to and 15 min after a moderate furfural challenge.
Patent
Microorganisms for the production of adipic acid and other compounds
Anthony P. Burgard,Priti Pharkya,Robin E. Osterhout +2 more
- 27 Mar 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, a non-naturally occurring microbial organism having an adipate, 6-aminocaproic acid or caprolactam pathway was provided, where the microbial organism contained at least one exogenous nucleic acid encoding an enzyme in the respective pathway.

Microorganisms and methods for the biosynthesis of adipate, hexamethylenediamine and 6-aminocaproic acid
Mark J. Burk,Anthony P. Burgard,Robin E. Osterhout,Priti Pharkya +3 more
- 07 May 2010
TL;DR: In this article, a method for culturing a 6-aminocaproic acid, caprolactam, hexametheylenediamine or levulinic acid pathway enzyme was proposed.

An integrated biotechnology platform for developing sustainable chemical processes
Nelson Robert Barton,Anthony P. Burgard,Mark J. Burk,Jason S Crater,Robin E. Osterhout,Priti Pharkya,Brian Steer,Jun Sun,John D. Trawick,Stephen J. Van Dien,Tae Hoon Yang,Harry Yim +11 more
TL;DR: This work presents the Genomatica platform and its use to develop E. coli strains for production of the industrial chemical 1,4-butanediol from sugars, to demonstrate how a rational approach to strain engineering provided critical insights about pathway bottlenecks, byproducts, expression balancing, and commercial robustness, leading to a superior BDO production strain and process.

Primary alcohol producing organisms
Jun Sun,Priti Pharkya,Anthony P. Burgard +2 more
- 05 Mar 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, a non-naturally occurring microbial organism is defined as a microbial organism having at least one exogenous gene insertion and/or one or more gene disruptions that confer production of primary alcohols.
