Bisphosphonate Use and Atypical Fractures of the Femoral Shaft
TL;DR: Although there was a high prevalence of current bisphosphonate use among patients with atypical fractures, the absolute risk was small, and population-based nationwide analyses may be reassuring for patients who receive bisph phosphonates.

Teriparatide for Acceleration of Fracture Repair in Humans: A Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blind Study of 102 Postmenopausal Women With Distal Radial Fractures
Per Aspenberg,Harry K. Genant,Torsten Johansson,Antonio J. Nino,Kyoungah See,Kelly Krohn,Pedro A García-Hernández,Christopher P Recknor,Thomas A. Einhorn,Gail P Dalsky,Bruce H. Mitlak,Anke Fierlinger,Mark Lakshmanan +12 more
TL;DR: The shortened time to healing for teriparatide 20 µg compared with placebo still may suggest that fracture repair can be accelerated by teriparkinide, but this result should be interpreted with caution and warrants further study.

Osteoblast-derived WNT16 represses osteoclastogenesis and prevents cortical bone fragility fractures
Sofia Movérare-Skrtic,Petra Henning,Xianwen Liu,Kenichi Nagano,Hiroaki Saito,Anna E Börjesson,Klara Sjögren,Sara H Windahl,Helen H. Farman,Bert Kindlund,Cecilia Engdahl,Antti Koskela,Fu-Ping Zhang,Emma Eriksson,Farasat Zaman,Ann Hammarstedt,Hanna Isaksson,Marta Bally,Ali Kassem,Catharina Lindholm,Olof Sandberg,Per Aspenberg,Lars Sävendahl,Jian Q. Feng,Jan Tuckermann,Juha Tuukkanen,Matti Poutanen,Roland Baron,Ulf H. Lerner,Francesca Gori,Claes Ohlsson +30 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that Wnt16-deficient mice develop spontaneous fractures as a result of low cortical thickness and high cortical porosity, which opens new avenues for the specific prevention or treatment of nonvertebral fractures, a substantial unmet medical need.
A dose-response study
Ralf Skripitz,Troels T. Andreassen,Per Aspenberg +2 more
- 01 Jan 2000
TL;DR: This work aims to demonstrate the importance of knowing the carrier and removal status of canine coronavirus, as a source of infection for other animals, not necessarily belonging to the same breeds.

How can one platelet injection after tendon injury lead to a stronger tendon after 4 weeks? Interplay between early regeneration and mechanical stimulation.
Olena Virchenko,Per Aspenberg +1 more
TL;DR: Platelets influence only the early phases of regeneration, but this allows mechanical stimulation to start driving neo-tendon development at an earlier time point, which kept it constantly ahead of the controls.
