Apparatuses, systems, and methods for processing system foodstuff are shown and described. Food processing systems can hold and prepare food for consumption. The disclosed embodiments can be quickly and conveniently used to dry, grind, mill, dispense, or otherwise process foodstuff. The disclosed embodiments also provide a drive mechanism that utilizes a contoured surface between a ratchet wheel and a drive mechanism that rotates the ratchet wheel to move the ratchet wheel toward and in engagement with a drive wheel for initiating rotation of the drive wheel and to disengage the ratchet wheel from the drive wheel to allow the drive wheel to rotate freely. The drive wheel is configured to couple to a processing component of the processing system.

A food processing device (100) has a handle (10) holding a food receptacle (20), a cutter (30X) having perforations and extending across a bottom opening of the receptacle (20), and a presser (60) extendable into the receptacle (20) and movable towards the cutter (30X) for pressing food in the receptacle (20) against the cutter (30X), whereby the food is cut into smaller pieces. The presser (60) has a press surface (63X), which has a protruding pattern matching the perforations of the cutter (30X) for passing through the perforations to press food through the cutter (30X).

A centrifugal dryer for leafy comestibles includes a basket within a cylindrical cabinet. Overlying the cabinet is a cover assembly having a lid, an external crank arm and a gear train sealed within a gearbox mounted to the underside of the lid. An output shaft of the gear train engages a central tower of the basket to rotate the basket about a vertical axis. The cover assembly includes a hand brake mechanism having a brake pad which selectively engages an upper peripheral lip flange of the basket for stopping rotation without straining the gear train.

A pivotally-leveraged manual centrifugal drive according to a preferred embodiment of the invention for use with a bowl and a basket formed to nest within the bowl, comprising: a) a housing formed to mate with the bowl; b) a rotation wheel rotatably connected to the housing, formed to mate with the basket, and having a plane of rotation; c) a handle pivotally attached to the housing and oriented to move in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the rotation wheel; and d) gears connecting the handle to the rotation wheel. Also disclosed are an automatic clutch that engages the rotation wheel only when the handle is moved in one direction, and a braking mechanism that includes a disk having a diameter substantially smaller than the rotation wheel.

Methods and apparatus for a vegetable spinner

A device for drying food is provided. The device includes a bowl having a bottom wall and a sidewall terminating in a top edge, a cover removably connected to the top edge of the bowl, a basket assembly including a basket and a removable lid disposed in the bowl and rotatable relative to the bowl about an axis, and a brake assembly carried by the cover and engageable with the lid for stopping rotation of the basket assembly.
