A method of determining the reception time of a signal containing a predetermined code, e.g. a Barker code. The code may be present at the start of a telegram to be received by a mobile radio from a base station. The signal is correlated with a corresponding code stored in memory. The correlation is carried out at different offsets in time. This gives a correlation curve (figure 2). The apex represents peak correlation. The timing of optimum correlation is determined by extrapolating the sides to the apex. The invention also provides a zero crossing detector for timing zero crossing events whereby sufficiently accurate timing of receipt of the code is possible to enable meaningful correlation.

Method of determination of signal reception time by means of correlation technique

In a forty megabit per second TDM signalling system 
in which twenty 2 megabit per second signalling streams 
are combined, one of the twenty primary signalling 
streams is inverted and substituted for one of the other 
signalling streams. By using adjacent channels the forty 
megabit signal stream has a guaranteed change of data at 
least once every twenty bits. The system facilitates 
clock recovery and synchronisation in apparatus employing 
bi-phase mark encoded data.

The invention relates to a narrowband transmission method for a digital mobile radio system for communication of mobile subscriber stations with one another and with fixed stations. For this purpose, a reduction in the transmission power for the mobile radio units is intended to be enabled while maintaining the range, while improved resistance to adjacent signal interference and increased immunity to common-channel interference are intended to be achieved. For this purpose, the invention provides that the coded data stream is combined to form symbol blocks of n bits with a resulting symbol rate which is lower than the bit rate by a factor n. Each of the 2 symbols required to represent a continuous data stream is transmitted on the radio path as a word with 2 chips and the 2 -fold chip rate in such a way that a Barker code roughly corresponding to the word length is placed in front of a block formed from a plurality of words and is transmitted. At the receiving end, the Barker code is correlated by a correlator with high resolution capacity in order to obtain a time signal for the correlative evaluation of the chip words. The symbols retrieved in this way are then converted back into the continuous data stream of the original bit rate.

Narrowband transmission method for a digital mobile radio system

A channel alignment circuit which is capable of separating six frame signals of 51.84 Mbps (Mega Bit Per Second) for six channels by expanding a control signal from a channel alignment block into three signals for a reframer of a cable television system. The circuit includes a CIB detector for detecting 51.84 Mbps of six descrambled channels and generating a 12-bit channel number data, a control signal generator for generating a 3-bit channel alignment control signal by using a 3-bit data among the channel number data from the CIB detector, and a channel alignment unit for separating the data inputted into six channels in accordance with a control signal from the control signal generator.
