Method and apparatus for reduced-complexity viterbi-type sequence detectors
Richard T. Behrens,Kent D. Anderson,Neal Glover +2 more
- 11 Mar 1993
TL;DR: In a typical Viterbi demodulator implemented using the add, compare, select (ACS) method, each state in the expected sample sequence model is associated with a hardware module to perform the functions of adding new branch error metrics to path error metrics, comparing path errors, and selecting the path having the lowest path error metric as discussed by the authors.

Fast remainder decoding for a Reed-Solomon code
Neal Glover,Trent Dudley +1 more
- 10 Feb 1987
TL;DR: In this paper, an algorithm for decoding Reed-Solomon codes with more than two data symbol errors is described. But decoding cases of more than four errors remains, and when four or fewer errors remain, the Chien search is eliminated in favor of locating an error by direct solution of the error locator polynomial.

Filtering a read signal to attenuate secondary pulses caused by pole tips of a thin film magnetic read head
Richard T. Behrens,Neal Glover,Dudley O. Trent,Alan J. Armstrong,Christopher P. Zook,William G. Bliss +5 more
- 04 Apr 1994
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a filter for compensating discrete secondary pulse formations associated with a data stream of discrete main pulses produced from data read from magnetic media, where the filter's impulse response comprises a center coefficient with side compensating coefficients for attenuating the secondary pulses when the input signal is convolved with the impulse response.

Error pointers for enhanced error correction
Kenneth R. Burns,Neal Glover,Hossein F. Sevvom +2 more
- 13 Sep 1991
TL;DR: In this article, the received data bytes of the record are corrupted so that they cannot be corrected by the use of only the redundancy bytes, and the control module reads the data buffer to receive the pointer bits of the recorded record.
