Controlling frustrated liquids and solids with an applied field in a kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet.
TL;DR: A magnetic field is applied and a series of spin-gapped phases appearing at five different fractions of magnetization are discovered by means of a grand canonical density matrix renormalization group, an unbiased state-of-the-art numerical technique.
Ground-state phase diagram of 2D electrons in a high Landau level: a density-matrix renormalization group study.
Naokazu Shibata,Daijiro Yoshioka +1 more
TL;DR: The ground-state phase diagram of 2D electrons in a high Landau level (index N = 2) is studied by the density-matrix renormalization group method and it is shown that the ground- state phase diagram consists of three different charge density wave states called stripe phase, bubble phase, and Wigner crystal.

Probing the universality of topological defect formation in a quantum annealer: Kibble-Zurek mechanism and beyond
Yuki Bando,Yuki Susa,Hiroki Oshiyama,Naokazu Shibata,Masayuki Ohzeki,Masayuki Ohzeki,Fernando Javier Gómez-Ruiz,Daniel A. Lidar,Sei Suzuki,Adolfo del Campo,Adolfo del Campo,Adolfo del Campo,Hidetoshi Nishimori,Hidetoshi Nishimori +13 more

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the prediction of the universal Kibble-Zurek mechanism for an open quantum system reproduces the mean number of topological defects generated in a quantum annealer, providing a benchmark for the latter.

Probing the Universality of Topological Defect Formation in a Quantum Annealer: Kibble-Zurek Mechanism and Beyond
Yuki Bando,Yuki Susa,Hiroki Oshiyama,Naokazu Shibata,Masayuki Ohzeki,Fernando Javier Gómez-Ruiz,Daniel A. Lidar,Adolfo del Campo,Sei Suzuki,Hidetoshi Nishimori +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provided an experimental test of quantum critical dynamics in an open quantum system, and paves the way to new directions in quantum simulation experiments, and found that the degree of agreement with the experimental data from the D-Wave annealing devices is better for the KZM, a quantum theory, than for the classical spin-vector Monte Carlo model, thus favoring a quantum description of the device.

Boundary effects in the density-matrix renormalization group calculation
Naokazu Shibata,Chisa Hotta +1 more
TL;DR: Gendiar et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the boundary effect of the density matrix renormalization group calculation (DMRG), which is an artifactual induction of symmetry-breaking pseudo-long-range order and takes place when the long-range quantum fluctuation cannot be properly included in the variational wave function due to numerical limitation.
