An electroluminescent display or lighting product incorporates a panel including a collection of distinct light-emitting elements formed on a substrate. A plurality of distinct local seals are formed below respective individual light-emitting elements or groups of light-emitting elements. The local seal may be used in conjunction with a continuous thin film encapsulation structure. Optical functions can be provided by each local seal, including refraction, filtering, color shifting, and scattering. Each local seal is formed by depositing a low melting temperature glass powder suspension or paste using inkjet technology, and fusing the glass powder using a scanning laser beam having a tailored beam profile. In other embodiments, a lower encapsulation substrate incorporating local window seals is wholly or partially pre-formed.

A flexible display device includes a display panel and a plurality of curving-restricting structures. The display panel has a display surface and a bottom surface opposite thereto. The display surface has a visible region and an outer region surrounding the visible region. The curving-restricting structures may be disposed on at least one of the outer region of the display surface and the bottom surface of the display panel. Each curving-restricting structure has a top surface and at least a slanted side wall. The top surfaces of adjacent curving-restricting structures are spaced with each other, and the slanted side walls of adjacent curving-restricting structures face each other. When the flexible display device are curved to a predetermined extent, adjacent curving-restricting structures may resist against with each other to prevent the display panel from being unduly curved to be damaged, and thus a use reliability of the flexible display device is improved.

According to one embodiment, a method of manufacturing a display device, includes preparing a first substrate formed such that a first resin layer is formed on a first support substrate, and thereafter a display element portion and a mounting portion are formed above the first resin layer and a protection layer, which extends from an end portion of the first resin layer along the mounting portion onto the first support substrate, is disposed, preparing a second substrate formed such that a second resin layer is formed on a second support substrate, attaching the first substrate and the second substrate, and mounting a flexible printed circuit board, which is in a state in which the flexible printed circuit board is opposed to the protection layer, on the mounting portion.

An electronic device may be provided with a display such as an organic light-emitting diode display. The display may include an array of display pixels formed on a polymer substrate layer. The polymer substrate layer may include an contiguous layer of polyimide that forms a substrate layer in additional structures such as a polymer film and a flexible printed circuit. A first transition region may be interposed between the display and the polymer film, and a second transition region may be interposed between the polymer film and the flexible printed circuit. Metal traces may be formed on the polymer film and on the flexible printed circuit. A display driver integrated circuit may be mounted to the traces on the polymer film. The polymer film may form a U-shaped bend. The flexible printed circuit may be coupled to a printed circuit board in the device using hot bar solder connections.

A touch panel structure and the manufacturing method thereof are disclosed, in which the manufacturing method includes the steps of: providing a bonding layer; and forming a conductive pattern layer on the bonding layer; wherein the conductive pattern layer is composed of at least one first and at least one second major conductors with an insulation layer interposed between the first and the second major conductors. Comparing with the prior art for manufacturing touch panels, the disclosure is advantageous in material cost, production cost, and production yield; moreover, the panel lamination process can be simplified and the touch panel structure can be joined to a planar or curvy panel and facilitate the design of a thinner product.
