Antioxidant Activity of Eugenol and Related Monomeric and Dimeric Compounds.
TL;DR: Electron spin resonance (ESR) spin trapping experiments revealed that eugenol and its dimer, having allyl groups in the structure, scavenged superoxide, and that only eugenoli trapped hydroxyl radicals under the conditions used, suggesting that e Eugenol and dieugenol have a different mechanism of antioxidation, i.e. eugenolin may inhibit lipid peroxidation at the level of initiation.
Antioxidant activity of Magnolol, honokiol, and related phenolic compounds
TL;DR: In this article, the antioxidant activity of 10 Japanese and Chinese crude drugs (Kampo drugs) was determined in vitro and the structure-activity relationship of phenolic compounds showed that antioxidant activities were in the order 4allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol ≥ p,p′-biphenol > eugenol > 2-allyl 6-methylphenol > honokiol > magnolol > caffeic acid > p-ethylphenol> guaiacol.
