A Component Architecture for High-Performance Scientific Computing
Benjamin A. Allan,Robert C. Armstrong,David E. Bernholdt,Felipe Bertrand,Kenneth Chiu,Tamara L. Dahlgren,Kostadin Damevski,Wael R. Elwasif,T Epperly,Madhusudhan Govindaraju,Daniel S. Katz,James Arthur Kohl,Manojkumar Krishnan,Gary Kumfert,J. Walter Larson,Sophia Lefantzi,Michael J. Lewis,Allen D. Malony,Lois C. Mclnnes,Jarek Nieplocha,Boyana Norris,Steven G. Parker,Jaideep Ray,Sameer Shende,Theresa L. Windus,Shujia Zhou +25 more
- 01 May 2006
TL;DR: The Common Component Architecture (CCA) provides a means for software developers to manage the complexity of large-scale scientific simulations and to move toward a plug-and-play environment for high-performance coputing.
Toward Characterizing the Performance of SOAP Toolkits
Madhusudhan Govindaraju,Aleksander Slominski,Kenneth Chiu,Pu Liu,Robert van Engelen,Michael J. Lewis +5 more
- 08 Nov 2004
TL;DR: This paper compares and contrast the performance of widely used SOAP toolkits and draws conclusions about their current performance characteristics, and provides insights into various design features that can lead to optimized SOAP implementations.

An Adaptive Algorithm for Information Dissemination in Self-Organizing Grids
Deger Cenk Erdil,Michael J. Lewis,Nael Abu-Ghazaleh +2 more
- 04 Dec 2006
TL;DR: The characteristics and behavior of adaptive probabilistic and change-sensitive information forwarding protocols are explored, identifying and addressing several issues and problems, and introducing dissemination protocols that are better able to reduce overhead and increase query satisfaction rates for a variety of grid conditions.

Design of Distributed Component Frameworks for Computational Grids.
Madhusudhan Govindaraju,Himanshu Bari,Michael J. Lewis +2 more
- 01 Jan 2004
TL;DR: This work identifies key design constraints and uses them to define the design space of the Common Component Architecture (CCA) and describes two different concrete implementations of the CCA, CCALegion and XCAT.

Performance Analysis of Adapting a MapReduce Framework to Dynamically Accommodate Heterogeneity
Jessica Hartog,Renan DelValle,Madhusudhan Govindaraju,Michael J. Lewis +3 more
- 01 Jan 2015
TL;DR: The study suggests the opportunity for cluster managers to build performance-heterogeneous clusters by design, if they also run MapReduce frameworks that can exploit them, and suggests that frameworks should support finer grained sub-tasking and dynamic data partitioning when running on some performance- heterogeneous clusters.
