Noise components involved in a video signal are detected as follows: Extracted from the video signal are a first high-frequency component involved during each blanking interval, a second high-frequency component involved in a horizontal direction for each of pixels constituting each image carried by the video signal during each image-carrying period located between adjacent blanking intervals, a third high-frequency component involved in a vertical direction for each pixel by using the video signal and a 1-line delayed video signal generated by delaying the video signal by one line in the vertical direction, and a fourth high-frequency component involved in a time direction for each pixel by using the video signal and a 1-frame delayed video signal generated by delaying the video signal by one frame in the time direction. Statistical processing is performed to obtain an absolute value of each of levels of the second to fourth components for each pixel, and obtain the number of pixels in each image per level in absolute value from a level zero to at least a predetermined level in a range from the level zero to a maximum level in absolute value for each of the second to fourth components. A noise detecting signal is generated based on a level of the first component irrespective of a result of the statistical processing when the level of the first component is higher than a predetermined level. In contrast, when the level of the first component is equal to or lower than the predetermined level, obtained are three levels, as a first noise level, a second noise level and a third noise level, for the first, second and third components, respectively. Each of the three levels has the smallest number of pixels among levels other than the level zero each having a larger number of pixels than the level zero for the corresponding component. A noise detecting signal is generated based the lowest or the second lowest noise level among the first to third noise levels. The generated detecting signal is used for recursive noise reduction.

The reordering circuitry is configured to reorder output vector data sample sets from execution units as a result of performing vector processing operations in-flight while the output vector data sample sets are being provided over the data flow paths from the execution units to the vector data memory to be stored. In this manner, the output vector data sample sets are stored in the reordered format in the vector data memory without requiring additional post-processing steps, which may delay subsequent vector processing operations to be performed in the execution units.

Vector processing engines (VPEs) employing merging circuitry in data flow paths between execution units and vector data memory to provide in-flight merging of output vector data stored to vector data memory are disclosed. Related vector processing instructions, systems, and methods are also disclosed. Merging circuitry is provided in data flow paths between execution units and vector data memory in the VPE. The merging circuitry is configured to merge an output vector data sample set from execution units as a result of performing vector processing operations in-flight while the output vector data sample set is being provided over the output data flow paths from the execution units to the vector data memory to be stored. The merged output vector data sample set is stored in a merged form in the vector data memory without requiring additional post-processing steps, which may delay subsequent vector processing operations to be performed in execution units.

VECTOR PROCESSING ENGINES (VPEs) EMPLOYING DESPREADING CIRCUITRY IN DATA FLOW PATHS BETWEEN EXECUTION UNITS AND VECTOR DATA MEMORY TO PROVIDE IN-FLIGHT DESPREADING OF SPREAD-SPECTRUM SEQUENCES, AND RELATED VECTOR PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

A noise reduction section includes: a correlation detector configured to detect correlations between corresponding pixels between first and second image signals which are obtained from an identical image, and output degrees of correlation based on the detected correlations; an addition ratio determining section configured to determine addition ratios of the corresponding pixels between the first and second image signals based on the degrees of correlation, where the addition ratios are used in weighted addition averaging processes; and a weighted addition averaging section configured to perform, based on the addition ratios, the weighted addition averaging processes on the corresponding pixels to generate an output image signal, wherein when each of the degrees of correlation is relatively high, the addition ratio determining section provides a relatively high proportion of the pixel of the second image signal in the addition ratio.
