A review of IoT applications in healthcare

IoT security is one of the prominent issues that has gained significant attention among the researchers in recent times. The recent advancements in IoT introduces various critical security issues and increases the risk of privacy leakage of IoT data. Implementation of Blockchain can be a potential solution for the security issues in IoT. This review deeply investigates the security threats and issues in IoT which deteriorates the effectiveness of IoT systems. This paper presents a perceptible description of the security threats, Blockchain based solutions, security characteristics and challenges introduced during the integration of Blockchain with IoT. An analysis of different consensus protocols, existing security techniques and evaluation parameters are discussed in brief. In addition, the paper also outlines the open issues and highlights possible research opportunities which can be beneficial for future research. 

A review of IoT security and privacy using decentralized blockchain techniques

UAVs are increasingly appearing in swarms or formations to leverage cooperative behavior, forming flying ad hoc networks. These UAV-enabled networks can meet several complex mission requirements and are seen as a potential enabler for many of the emerging use-cases in future communication networks. Such networks, however, are characterized by a highly dynamic and mobile environment with no guarantee of a central network infrastructure which can cause both connectivity and security issues. While wireless mesh networks are envisioned as a solution for such scenarios, these networks come with their own challenges and security vulnerabilities. In this paper, we analyze the key security and resilience issues resulting from the application of wireless mesh networks within UAV swarms. Specifically, we highlight the main challenges of applying current mesh technologies within the domain of UAV swarms and expose existing vulnerabilities across the communication stack. Based on this analysis, we present a security-focused architecture for UAV mesh communications. Finally, from the identification of these vulnerabilities, we discuss research opportunities posed by the unique challenges of UAV swarm connectivity.

Towards Secure Wireless Mesh Networks for UAV Swarm Connectivity: Current Threats, Research, and Opportunities

Moving differential and dynamic window moving averaging are simple and well-known signal processing algorithms. However, the most common methods of obtaining sufficient signal-to-noise ratios in distributed acoustic sensing use expensive and precise equipment such as laser sources, photoreceivers, etc., and neural network postprocessing, which results in an unacceptable price of an acoustic monitoring system for potential customers. This paper presents the distributed fiber-optic acoustic sensors data processing and noise suppression techniques applied both to raw data (spatial and temporal amplitude distributions) and to spectra obtained after the Fourier transform. The performance of algorithms’ individual parts in processing distributed acoustic sensor’s data obtained in laboratory conditions for an optical fiber subjected to various dynamic impact events is studied. A comparative analysis of these parts’ efficiency was carried out, and for each type of impact event, the most beneficial combinations were identified. The feasibility of existing noise reduction techniques performance improvement is proposed and tested. Presented algorithms are undemanding for computation resources and provide the signal-to-noise ratio enhancement of up to 13.1 dB. Thus, they can be useful in areas requiring the distributed acoustic monitoring systems’ cost reduction as maintaining acceptable performance while allowing the use of cheaper hardware.

Hybrid End-to-End VPN Security Approach for Smart IoT Objects

The smart manufacturing ecosystem enhances the end-to-end efficiency of the mine-to-market lifecycle to create the value chain using the big data generated rapidly by edge computing devices, third-party technologies, and various stakeholders connected via the industrial Internet of things. In this context, smart manufacturing faces two serious challenges to its industrial IoT big data integrity: real-time transaction monitoring and peer validation due to the volume and velocity dimensions of big data in industrial IoT infrastructures. Modern blockchain technologies as an embedded layer substantially address these challenges to empower the capabilities of the IIoT layer to meet the integrity requirements of the big data layer. This paper presents the trusted consortium blockchain (TCB) framework to provide an optimal solution for big data integrity through a secure and verifiable hyperledger fabric modular (HFM). The TCB leverages trustworthiness in heterogeneous IIoT networks of governing end-point peers to achieve strong integrity for big data and support high transaction throughput and low latency of HFM contents. Our proposed framework drives the fault-tolerant properties and consensus protocols to monitor malicious activities of tunable peers if compromised and validates the signed evidence of big data recorded in real-time HFM operated over different smart manufacturing environments. Experimentally, the TCB has been evaluated and reached tradeoff results of throughput and latency better than the comparative consortium blockchain frameworks.

Securing Big Data Integrity for Industrial IoT in Smart Manufacturing Based on the Trusted Consortium Blockchain (TCB)

The importance of analyzing social networks lies in enabling researchers to understand better the relationships among network actors over time through social data mining and patterns examining social network growth This paper aims to analyze the topology structure and critical influences on Facebook for employees’ group of cybersecurity awareness The hypotheses were tested and analyzed following the quantitative research methodology through conducting appropriate statistical tests, such as correlations, t-tests, ANOVA, and regression The independent variables were gender, age, education, seniority, and cyber compromising; the dependent variable was cybersecurity awareness Data collection for the employee’s group acquired online by Facebook The sample includes 1033 active employees out of 9264 employees representing the study population The results provided several pieces of evidence that online communications by young employees were more efficient than older ones, and cybersecurity awareness of males was better than females Nevertheless, there was a strong correlation between seniority employees, and the effectiveness of their cybersecurity awareness, as well as the topology structure, had profound effects on the ability of the employees’ group to fulfill their objectives Employees with higher education had more influence than the others; but in contrast, there was no apparent difference between the influence of employees whereas compromised or non-compromised

The Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is becoming pervasive in every aspect of smart city daily life and considered as one of the four fundamental conceptual approaches of the fourth generation industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). CPS used to describe the next generation of a diverse spectrum of complicated, multidisciplinary, physically comprehending engineered systems that integrates embedded cyber aspects into the physical world. It implants computation technologies, communication control, the convergence of information, and physical processes together with strategic importance internationally. CPS is still a vast research area. As a result, it opens venues for applications across multiple scales. This paper presents an in-depth survey of the related works, focusing on the design and how it relates to different research fields, current concepts, and real-life applications to understand CPS more precisely. Further, it enumerates an extensive set of CPS challenges and opportunities, introducing visionary ideas, research strategies, and future trends expected for future-oriented technological solutions, like cloud computing, Internet of Things, and Big Data. These technological solutions are to play a critical role in CPS research and have significant impacts on the smart city.

Cyber-Physical Systems in Smart City: Challenges and Future Trends for Strategic Research.

In the context of the smartphones booming in the Arab world over the last decade with more than one hundred million Android users, depend on these devices on a daily basis to search and retrieve available information in Arabic language from the various online sources. This research demonstrates the developing of the first, novel and unique tool for Arabic Question Answering App (AQA App). The proposed solution enables the Arabic users to find the accurate, direct and quick answers for a large variety of questions in Arabic language at anywhere and anytime through their Android smartphones. The architecture framework of AQA App is implemented, deployed and tested based on Android Studio Platform. The results of performance evaluation for AQA App reveals precise to be 76% on average of almost correct answers for different types of questions with recall being 88%. The response time of retrieved answers for AQA App was ranging as per the type of question between 93 and 114 ns. Moreover, the performance of proposed AQA App when compared with other Question and Answering Apps in English language such as “Quora” and “Answers” Apps showed that the performance of Answers App and AQA App were approximately equal, but the performance for both of them was lower than performance of “Quora” App. With the very lack in availability of any Q&A app in Arabic, the results where compared with English Apps.
