Influenza virus mRNA trafficking through host nuclear speckles.
Amir Mor,Alexander D. White,Ke Zhang,Matthew G. Thompson,Matthew Esparza,Raquel Muñoz-Moreno,Kazunori Koide,Kristen W. Lynch,Adolfo García-Sastre,Adolfo García-Sastre,Beatriz M. A. Fontoura +10 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the influenza virus uses nuclear speckles to promote post-transcriptional splicing of its M1 mRNA, and previously unknown roles for the viral NS1 protein and cellular factors are assigned to an intranuclear trafficking pathway.

G-Quadruplex-Enabling Sequence within the Human Tyrosine Hydroxylase Promoter Differentially Regulates Transcription.
TL;DR: A guanosine (G)-rich segment in the 3'-proximal promoter region of human tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) acts as a necessary element for transcription, and depending on the utilized combination of G-stretches affects transcription in different ways.

TRAP150 interacts with the RNA-binding domain of PSF and antagonizes splicing of numerous PSF-target genes in T cells.
Christopher A. Yarosh,Iulia Tapescu,Matthew G. Thompson,Jinsong Qiu,Michael J. Mallory,Xiang-Dong Fu,Kristen W. Lynch +6 more
TL;DR: A model in which TRAP150 interacts with dimeric PSF to block access of RNA to RRM2, thereby regulating the activity of PSF toward a broad set of splicing events in T cells is suggested.
Functional and Mechanistic Interplay of Host and Viral Alternative Splicing Regulation during Influenza Infection.
TL;DR: It is shown that at least some of the viral-induced changes in host splicing occur in genes that alter the efficiency of influenza replication.
Viral-Induced Alternative Splicing of Host Genes Promotes Influenza Replication
Matthew G. Thompson,Mark Dittmar,Michael J. Mallory,Prasanna Bhat,Max Ferretti,Beatriz M. A. Fontoura,Sara Cherry,Kristen W. Lynch +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that infection of human lung epithelial cells with Influenza A virus (IAV) also induces a broad program of alternative splicing of host genes, and that approximately a quarter of the IAV-induced splicing events are regulated by hnRNP K, a host protein that is likely to alter the accessibility for host transcripts thereby leading to a program of host splicing changes that promote IAV replication.
