Absorption-Line Probes of Gas and Dust in Galactic Superwinds
Timothy M. Heckman,Timothy M. Heckman,Matthew D. Lehnert,Matthew D. Lehnert,David K. Strickland,Lee Armus,Lee Armus +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, moderate resolution spectra of the NaD absorption line in a sample of 32 far-IR-bright starburst galaxies were discussed, and it was shown that the absorbing material consists of ambient interstellar gas accelerated along the minor axis of the galaxy by a hot starburst-driven superwind.

Absorption-Line Probes of Gas and Dust in Galactic Superwinds
Timothy M. Heckman,Timothy M. Heckman,Matthew D. Lehnert,Matthew D. Lehnert,David K. Strickland,Lee Armus,Lee Armus +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors obtained moderate resolution (R = few thousand) spectra of the Na I λλ5890, 5896 (Na D) absorption line in a sample of 32 far-IR-bright starburst galaxies.

The Panchromatic Starburst Intensity Limit at Low and High Redshift
TL;DR: In this article, the integrated bolometric effective surface brightness S_e distributions of starbursts are investigated for samples observed in 1.1 -10 kpc, and little evolution out to redshifts z ~ 3.

X-Rays from NGC 3256: High-Energy Emission in Starburst Galaxies and Their Contribution to the Cosmic X-Ray Background
Edward C. Moran,Edward C. Moran,Matthew D. Lehnert,Matthew D. Lehnert,David J. Helfand,David J. Helfand +5 more
TL;DR: The infrared-luminous galaxy NGC 3256 is a classic example of a merger-induced nuclear starburst system as mentioned in this paper, which accounts for approximately 20% of the observed soft X-ray emission.
