An object is to provide a semiconductor device of which a manufacturing process is not complicated and by which cost can be suppressed, by forming a thin film transistor using an oxide semiconductor film typified by zinc oxide, and a manufacturing method thereof. For the semiconductor device, a gate electrode is formed over a substrate; a gate insulating film is formed covering the gate electrode; an oxide semiconductor film is formed over the gate insulating film; and a first conductive film and a second conductive film are formed over the oxide semiconductor film. The oxide semiconductor film has at least a crystallized region in a channel region.

There is provided a light emitting device in which low power consumption can be realized even in the case of a large screen. The surface of a source signal line or a power supply line in a pixel portion is plated to reduce a resistance of a wiring. The source signal line in the pixel portion is manufactured by a step different from a source signal line in a driver circuit portion. The power supply line in the pixel portion is manufactured by a step different from a power supply line led on a substrate. A terminal is similarly plated to made the resistance reduction. It is desirable that a wiring before plating is made of the same material as a gate electrode and the surface of the wiring is plated to form the source signal line or the power supply line.

A method for producing an optoreflective structure comprising providing a substrate supporting a first cladding layer having a first planar cladding surface; disposing a waveguide material on the first cladding layer; and forming on the waveguide material a second cladding layer having a second planar cladding surface. The method also comprises forming a beveled planar surface in the first cladding layer, in the waveguide material, and in the second cladding layer; and depositing an optical signal-changing surface on the beveled planar surface.

A method for making an optical apparatus comprising forming an optical substrate having a waveguide embedded therein; depositing a metal layer over an end of the waveguide; and depositing a polymeric layer over the metal layer. An aperture is formed in the metal layer and in the polymeric layer by removing a portion of the metal layer and a portion of the polymeric layer disposed over the end of the waveguide. The method for making an optical apparatus also comprises inserting at least a portion of an optical device within the aperture so that the optical device is positioned to receive light from the first end of the waveguide.

Three-dimensional opto-electronic modules having a plurality of opto-electronic (O/E) layers, with optical signals being routed between O/E layers within one or more three-dimensional volumes, are disclosed. In preferred embodiments, the O/E layers are disposed over and above one another with at least one of their edges aligned to one another. At least two of the O/E layers have waveguides with ends near the aligned edges. A plurality of Zconnector arrays are disposed between the O/E layers and within the three-dimensional volumes to provide a plurality of Zdirection waveguides. A first vertical optical coupler couples light from one waveguide in one O/E layer to a Z-direction waveguide, and a second vertical optical coupler couples the light from the Z-direction waveguide to a second waveguide in a second O/E layer. In further preferred embodiments, segments of the Z-connector arrays are held by a holding unit.
