According to one aspect, a light bulb receptacle includes a housing which defines a housing chamber, a light bulb socket within the housing chamber and which comprises a first end and a second end about a light bulb chamber which is configured to receive a base of a light bulb, wherein the light bulb socket further comprises a plurality of fingers which extend outwardly from the first end toward the second end and define an opening to the light bulb chamber at the second end, wherein the fingers are individually configured to move outwardly from the light bulb chamber during insertion and removal of the light bulb via the opening to the light bulb chamber, and wherein the fingers individually comprise an engagement member configured to engage a base of the light bulb received within the light bulb chamber and to retain the light bulb received within the light bulb chamber.

A threadless light socket assembly allows a light bulb to be changed by pushing or pulling the light bulb into or out of the socket provides an outer insulator housing and an insulator cap which carrying a ground socket in a medial channel that grounds a light bulb base to a power supply. Plural spring biased thread locks protrude into center of the ground socket and are staggered in height to align with threads defined in a light bulb base. A positive contact is in the socket assembly supplies positive power from a power supply to the light bulb base. The threadless light socket has interchangeable components to allow installation in new and existing light fixtures.

A lighting system that includes a light bulb having a threaded bulb base and a luminare socket. The bulb ( 200 ) includes a two conductor base ( 201, 205 ) while the luminare socket ( 300 ) utilizes a circular ring ( 305 ) with an open aperture ( 307 ) for supplying current to the bulb. The circular ring ( 305 ) and aperture ( 307 ) in the luminare socket are sized to provide contact with the center contact ( 205 ) of the light bulb when the preferred wattage is selected. This prevents over wattage light bulbs from being used avoiding excess heat, arcing and the potential for fire.
