The invention provides a device and a method for accessing a wireless local area network. The device and the method are applied to terminal equipment which accesses the wireless local area network through an AP (access point) device corresponding to a first SSID (service set identifier). The method includes: when set conditions are met, determining at least one SSID, except for the first SSID, currently detected by the terminal equipment; determining a second SSID, in the same wireless local area network with the first SSID, from the at least one SSID; accessing the wireless local area network through an AP device corresponding to the second SSID. By adoption of the technical scheme, the same wireless local area network can be accessed through the AP devices corresponding to the different SSIDs in the same wireless local area network, and a user does not need to configure all AP devices in the same wireless local area network with the same SSID in advance, so that simplicity in operation is realized.
