The method includes the steps that under the circumstance that the power is supplied by an external power supply, when the mainboard detects a starting operation, a starting signal is sent to the single chip computer; when the single chip computer receives the starting signal sent from the mainboard, a first electric level signal is sent to a first control terminal of the CPCI power supply, after a preset duration, a second electric level signal is sent to a second control terminal of the CPCI power supply; when the CPCI power supply detects that the electric level of the first control terminal is the first electric level signal and the electric level of the second control terminal is the second electric level signal, the CPCI power supply is started and a first output voltage is output to the mainboard for supplying power to the mainboard. The method based on the CPCI power supply for supplying the power to the mainboard of the terminal and the terminal achieve the function that the mainboard and the CPCI power supply are started and shut down at the same time, and therefore the power consumption is decreased.
