Geomorphometry, the science of digital terrain analysis (DTA), is an important focus of research in both geomorphology and geographical information science (GIS). Given that 70% of China is mountainous, geomorphological research is popular among Chinese scholars, and the development of GIS over the last 30 years has led to significant advances in geomorphometric research. In this paper, we review Chinese progress in geomorphometry based on the published literature. There are three major areas of progress: digital terrain modelling methods, DTA methods, and applications of digital terrain models (DTMs). First, traditional vector- and raster-based terrain modelling methods, including the assessment of uncertainty, have received widespread attention. New terrain modelling methods such as unified raster and vector, high-fidelity, and real-time dynamic geographical scene modelling have also attracted research attention and are now a major focus of digital terrain modelling research. Second, in addition to the popular DTA methods based on topographical derivatives, geomorphological features, and hydrological factors extracted from DTMs, DTA methods have been extended to include analyses of the structure of underlying strata, ocean surface features and even socioeconomic spatial structures. Third, DTMs have been applied to fields including global climate change, analysis of various typical regions, lunar surface and other related fields. Clearly, Chinese scholars have made significant progress in geomorphometry. Chinese scholars have had the greatest international impact in areas including high-fidelity digital terrain modelling and DTM-based regional geomorphological analysis, particularly in the Loess Plateau and the Tibetan Plateau regions.

Chinese progress in geomorphometry

Abstract. Geohazard emergency response is a disaster event
management act that is multifactorial, time critical, task intensive and
socially significant. To improve the rationalization and standardization of
space–air–ground remote sensing collaborative observations in geohazard
emergency responses, this paper comprehensively analyzes the technical
resources of remote sensors and emergency service systems and establishes a
database of technical and service evaluation indexes using MySQL (Structured Query Language). Based on
the database, we propose the method of using the technique for order
preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS) and a Bayesian
network to evaluate the synergistic observation effectiveness and service
capability of remote sensing technology in geohazard emergency response,
respectively. We demonstrate through experiments that using this evaluation
can effectively grasp the operation and task completion of remote sensing
cooperative technology in geohazard emergency response. This provides a
decision basis for the synergistic planning work of heterogeneous sensors in
geohazard emergency response.

Index establishment and capability evaluation of space–air–ground remote sensing cooperation in geohazard emergency response

In recent years, the state has carried out landscape restoration for the Da Bijia Mountain many times. In order to master the effect of landscape restoration, 3D image data of the Da Bijia Mountain were obtained by UAV with high-precision and light-small oblique photogrammetry, and a series of data processing method as multi-vision image joint adjustment and Dense matching of multi-vision images was carried out to enable the 3D image production. Using the 3D image of the Da Bijia Mountain, plus with the evaluation of its renovation and repair effect, and through the method of surface area measurement to calculate the amount of renovation and repair quantities, the results showed that the amount of engineering quantities calculated by this method was similar to the actual amount, which provided an effective technical method for landscape restoration and monitoring in the future.

In the data acquisition and processing of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) oblique photography monomer modeling, it is hard to balance the model quality and the production efficiency. This research applied the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) evaluation method in the field of systems engineering to the management and decision of UAV oblique photography monomer modeling. Firstly, the AHP model is constructed by the expert survey method, and the relative weights of 6 evaluation indicators in the first hierarchies and the comprehensive ones of 3 in the second hierarchies are calculated. Then, each index data of different photo modeling schemes were collected and processed through experiments, and the AHP model was used to systematically evaluate each modeling scheme. Finally, the quadratic function is constructed with two variables, the number of photos and the AHP system score, meanwhile obtaining the optimal scheme by calculation. This is a useful attempt to apply the scientific evaluation method in the field of systems engineering to the production management of UAV aerial surveys. In this way, the efficiency of internal and external data collection and processing can be maximally improved while guaranteeing modeling accuracy.

Systematic Evaluation and Optimization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Tilt Photogrammetry Based on Analytic Hierarchy Process

3D real scenes are a digital virtual space that represents and portrays the real world in a photorealistic, three‐dimensional, and sequential manner. Existing methods for constructing and updating 3D models, such as oblique photography and laser scanning, are difficult to meet the demand of perceiving the real world intuitively, dynamically, and in real time. In recent years, the method of integrating rapidly rising video data and 3D models has become increasingly popular. Compared with existing methods, it enhances the real‐time perception of 3D scenes by taking advantage of the real‐time character of videos and the intuitive character of 3D models. In this article, we propose a real‐time fusion method of multiple videos and 3D real scenes based on optimal viewpoint selection. To begin, 3D reconstruction and video camera calibration were used to prepare the basic data for the fusion of videos and 3D model. Second, a visible‐surface detection‐based video space restoration method was provided, and the overlapping region between multiple videos was determined. Third, to split the overlapping region into the corresponding camera spaces, a segmentation method based on optimal viewpoint selection was given. Finally, the 2D videos were dynamically fitted to the 3D model using the dynamic texture mapping method, while accomplishing the fusing and rendering of the 3D real scene. After experimental verification, the overall effect of the multiple videos and 3D real scene fusion system implemented using the method proposed in this article is better, while the algorithm is less time‐consuming and efficient in rendering.
