Design of 125 μm cladding multi-core fiber with full-band compatibility to conventional single-mode fiber
Takashi Matsui,Taiji Sakamoto,Yukihiro Goto,Kotaro Saito,Kazuhide Nakajima,Fumihiko Yamamoto,Toshio Kurashima +6 more
- 01 Sep 2015
TL;DR: In this article, a multi-core fiber (MCF) fully compatible with conventional single-mode fiber (SMF) in all telecommunication bands while maintaining 125 μm cladding is presented.

Multi-Core Fiber Technology: Next Generation Optical Communication Strategy
Kazuhide Nakajima,Takashi Matsui,Kotaro Saito,Taiji Sakamoto,Noriyuki Araki +4 more
- 25 Oct 2017
TL;DR: The potential of space-division multiplexing as regards optical fiber and cable technology is described and the reality of multi-core-fiberbased space- Division Multiplexing optical wiring is investigated as the first example of a space- division multiplexed application taking the latest research and development into consideration.

Side-view based angle alignment technique for multi-core fiber
Kotaro Saito,Taiji Sakamoto,Takashi Matsui,Kazuhide Nakajima,Toshio Kurashima +4 more
- 20 Mar 2016
TL;DR: This work has successfully achieved precise rotational angle alignment to splice multi-core fiber by analyzing the symmetricity of side view contrast and potentially enables the automatic passive low loss fusion splicing of multi- core fiber.

Investigation of Connector Performance and Damage to Optical Fiber Connectors With Dust During High-Power Transmission
Chisato Fukai,Mitsuru Kihara,Ryo Koyama,Kotaro Saito,Yoshiteru Abe,Toshio Kurashima,Kazunori Katayama +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the conditions that cause a connector damage during a high-power transmission in an optical connector with house dust on its endface, and they showed that it is possible to completely remove dust, which they could not remove with a cleaner alone, by using an air duster in combination with a cleaners.

Design of Thin Cladding BIF Using Cutoff Wavelength Shortening Effect
TL;DR: In this paper, an empirical model of cutoff wavelength and transmission loss as a function of the cladding diameter and coating thickness is derived, and a further reduction in the diameter of step index type bending-loss insensitive fiber (BIF) is possible.
