A method and apparatus is disclosed of employing an information device ( 20 ) to transfer one or more data items from a remote holding area ( 32 ) to a local device ( 46 ) in dependence upon an access identifier representing the location of the one or more data items. The method comprises the steps of presenting an audio/visual representation of the access identifier at the information device ( 20 ), capturing the audio/visual representation at the local device ( 46 ), determining the location of the one or more data items from the captured audio/visual representation, and transferring the one or more data items to the local device ( 46 ) from the determined location. In a preferred embodiment, the information device ( 20 ) is a mobile device such as a mobile telephone, the audio/visual representation comprises a graphical representation such as a bar code that is displayed on a display ( 25 ) of the information device ( 20 ), and the bar code representation is captured at the local device ( 46 ) using a bar code scanner ( 49 ).

An integration system is disclosed that provides a virtual desktop integration with terminal services. A client computer is connected to one the virtual desktops operating in a server. The client computer examines information contained in a remote desktop protocol (RDP) compliant packet supplied by the server. The client computer connects to one of the many virtual desktops based on information. Use of the information enables integration of the virtual desktop with the existing terminal session deployment model. Client devices can establish a session using a single network name and can be appropriately directed to either a virtual desktop or terminal session.

Methods and systems for a low-cost high density compute environment with increased fail-over support through resource sharing and resources chaining. In one embodiment, one of a number of servers qualified to share resources is elected as a resource server. The shared resource can be firmware memory, hard-drive, co-processor, etc. The elected server responds to requests from individual requesters and provides the responses, such as firmware images. In one embodiment, all the blade servers on a rack use an image server for their firmware image so that these blade servers can automatically adopt a common personality across the entire rack. If the elected image server fails, a dynamic process elects an alternate image server. In one embodiment, among a set of qualified servers, only one is actively elected at a given time.

Share resources and increase reliability in a server environment

Techniques for discovering, connecting to, disconnecting from, reconnecting to, updating, and removing workspaces are described. In one embodiment, a list of discovered workspaces is maintained on a user device. Shortcuts for resources corresponding to each respective one of the discovered workspaces are integrated into a user interface of the user device. A request to access one of the resources contained in one of the discovered workspaces is received. Responsive to receiving the request, a connection from the user device to one or more resource hosts containing the resources corresponding to the indicated one of the discovered workspaces is opened. Access from the user device to the resources stored on the resource host(s) corresponding to the indicated one of the discovered workspaces is enabled by presenting shortcuts for resources corresponding to the discovered workspaces as though they were local resources.

Provided are a WLAN management procedure, a station supporting the procedure, and a frame format for the procedure. In the management procedure, a reporting station receives a event request frame including one or more event request elements each of which comprises an event type field for specifying the event type of an event request and an event response limit field for specifying the number of requested event report elements. And, in response to the event request frame, the reporting station transmits an event response frame including event report elements for the event type specified in the event type field as many as the number specified in the event response limit field.

A client-server-communication comprises at least one internet-based client
and at least one intranet-based server located in an intranet system. A demilitarized
zone is defined between an outbound firewall system to the
internet and an inbound firewall system to the intranet system. A proxy
server is located in this demilitarized zone and provides for any communication
connection to at least one of the intranet-based servers required from
one of the internet-based clients.
