To provide for continuity of audio output from a compact disc (CD) player, installed in an environment subject to shock or vibration, for example in a motor vehicle, the CD player includes an extra write-read memory (31), placed in the signal processing path of a signal scanned by an optical scanning system to a digital/analog converter in advance of an audio output system (AR), a repositioning system (36) to reposition the optical scanning optical system on a track which may have been lost due to a jolt or vibration, and a synchronizing system to synchronize writing in the write-read memory after repositioning of the optical scanning system at the end of previously written data in said write-read memory immediately in advance of tracking loss. Tracking loss can be sensed by determining loss of information data, or sensing of a scanning beam from the optical scanning system impinging on the mirror surface of the CD, with the number of tracks being jumped being determined by comparing timing data included in the CD scanned data with previously recorded data to thereby determine the length of track, and hence the number of track spirals which were skipped or jumped. Preferably, scanning and writing after detection of a tracking jump and repositioning is accelerated to rapidly refill the write-read memory, for example by increasing an operating clock rate while maintaining constant the read-out rate from the write-read memory (31).

The tracking servo system includes an equalizing circuit (9) for compensating a frequency characterisctic of a tracking error signal generated at a pickup of the disc player. The equalizing characteristic of the equalizing circuit is changed for a predetermined time period after the servo loop is closed during a track jump operation of the disc player. By this feature the servo loop is locked in when a decelerating force is exerted on the actuator of the tracking servo system, thereby to increase the stability of the lock in of the tracking servo system.

A tracking control system for controlling a relative positional relation between an optical pick-up and a rotating optical disc is provided. A tracking error signal is supplied to a low pass filter, to a lead phase compensating circuit and also to a zero cross comparator which supplies its output to a pulse generating circuit. During a normal tracking mode, in which the optical pick-up is maintained in alignment with a recording track of the rotating disc, an output from the low pass filter and an output from the lead phase compensating circuit are added to define a feed-back signal which is then supplied to the optical pick-up. On the other hand, during a track jump control mode, in which the optical pick-up is caused to jump to the next adjacent recording track, with the lead compensating circuit maintained in an inhibited state, an acceleration pulse is generated from the pulse generating circuit and then a deceleration pulse opposite in polarity is generated from the pulse generating circuit in response to an output from the zero cross comparator, wherein the output of the low pass filter is added with the acceleration and deceleration pulses to define a feed-back signal to be applied to the optical pick-up.

A servo system for compensating for environmental forces acting on, for example, a disk drive. A circuit is provided for causing an electrical current to flow in the voice coil controlling a read/write head; the head is caused to seek a predetermined track; and a device adjusts the current delivered to the voice coil so that the force generated thereby at least approximately balances environmental forces acting upon the voice coil so that the read/write head does not move by more than a predetermined amount from said predetermined track.

A low-frequency component of a tracking error signal is supplied to a linear motor employed as a feed motor for controlling relative movement of a disk and pickup in the radial direction of the disk. This prevents a spurious sliding movement of the pickup during a track jump, even if the disk and the player apparatus with which it cooperates are inclined with respect to a horizontal plane.

PURPOSE:To attain a stable track jump operation by superposing a DC componet in a tracking error signal to the track jump feeding signal of a linear moto for an optical system pickup. CONSTITUTION:A DC component in a tracking error signal ST just preceding to the execution of track jump is extracted by LPFs 1, 4 and held in a holding circuit 5. A signal SJ impressed by the track jump signal and superposed by the DC component from the circuit 5 through a switch S3 to be closed by a delay circuit 6 opening/closing switches S1, S2 on the basis of the track jump signal SJ is used as a jump feeding signal to execute the track jump by the optical pickup linear motor. Even if a pickup block is inclinded in the feeding direction, the stable track jump operation is attained.
