Genomic Analysis of Demographic History and Ecological Niche Modeling in the Endangered Sumatran Rhinoceros Dicerorhinus sumatrensis
Herman L. Mays,Herman L. Mays,Chih-Ming Hung,Pei Jen L. Shaner,James Denvir,Megan Justice,Shang Fang Yang,Terri L. Roth,David A. Oehler,Jun Fan,Swanthana Rekulapally,Donald A. Primerano +11 more
TL;DR: Past events denuded the Sumatran rhinoceros of genetic diversity through population decline, fragmentation, or some combination of the two and most likely made the species even more susceptible to later exploitation and habitat loss.

Pituitary homeobox 2 (PITX2) promotes thyroid carcinogenesis by activation of cyclin D2.
TL;DR: The findings demonstrate that the overactivated PITX2-Cyclin D2 pathway promotes thyroid tumorigenesis, and they provide the first evidence implicating an oncogenic role of PITx2 in human cancer.

Sperm defects in mice lacking a functional Niemann–Pick C1 protein
TL;DR: Results demonstrate that there are multiple defects in sperms from mice lacking a functional NPC1 protein, and these observed sperm defects may result in sterility.

Expression and function of CD9 in melanoma cells
TL;DR: CD9 protein expression in B16 mouse melanoma and six human melanoma cell lines was decreased compared to normal melanocytes, and transient overexpression of CD9 in the radial growth phase cell line SbCl2 resulted in the gain of Matrigel invasion activity.
Male germ cell-specific expression of a novel Patched-domain containing gene Ptchd3.
Jun Fan,Hiroto Akabane,Xuehai Zheng,Xuan Zhou,Li Zhang,Qiang Liu,Yonglian Zhang,Jing Yang,Guo-Zhang Zhu +8 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that Ptchd3 is a novel male germ cell-specific gene and may be involved in the Hh signaling to regulate sperm development and/or sperm function.
