Localization of N-type Ca2+ channels in the rat spinal cord following chronic constrictive nerve injury.
Dasa Cizkova,Jozef Maršala,Nadezda Lukacova,Martin Marsala,Stanislava Jergova,Judita Orendáčová,Tony L. Yaksh +6 more
TL;DR: The behavioral changes which developed after chronic constriction injury directly correlated with the α1B-subunit upregulation in the corresponding spinal cord segments, suggesting that upregulation of the spinal α1 B-sub unit may play an important role in the initiation and maintenance of pain state after peripheral nerve injury.

Cauda equina syndrome.
Judita Orendáčová,Dáša Čížková,Jozef Kafka,Nadežda Lukáčová,Martin Marsala,Igor Šulla,Jozef Maršala,Nobuo Katsube +7 more
TL;DR: The use of canine, porcine and rat models mimicking the cauda equina syndrome enabled discovery of the effects of the compression on nerve root neural and vascular anatomy, the impairment of impulse propagation and the changes of the neurotransmitters in the spinal cord after compression of cauda Equina.

Panmyelic Epidural Cooling Protects against Ischemic Spinal Cord Damage
TL;DR: It is concluded that spinal cord epidural cooling has a highly protective effect against ischemic spinal cord damage under experimental conditions of high thoracic aorta crossclamping in dogs.

Neuropathic pain is associated with alterations of nitric oxide synthase immunoreactivity and catalytic activity in dorsal root ganglia and spinal dorsal horn
TL;DR: The results indicate that marked alterations of nNOS in the DRG cells and in the spinal cord may contribute to spinal sensory processing as well as to the development of neuronal plasticity phenomena in the dorsal horn.

Development of GABA-sensitive spasticity and rigidity in rats after transient spinal cord ischemia: a qualitative and quantitative electrophysiological and histopathological study.
Osamu Kakinohana,Michael P. Hefferan,Seiya Nakamura,M. Kakinohana,Ján Gálik,Zoltán Tomori,Jozef Maršala,Tony L. Yaksh,Martin Marsala +8 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate that brief transient spinal cord ischemia in rat leads to a consistent development of spasticity and rigidity, which indicates that descending motor input into alpha-motoneurons is independent on Ia afferent couplings and can independently contribute to increased alpha-Motoneuronal excitability.
