Nitrogen dioxide exposure: effects on airway and blood cells
Mark W. Frampton,Joseph Boscia,Norbert J. Roberts,Mitra Azadniv,Alfonso Torres,Christopher Cox,Paul E. Morrow,Joan E. Nichols,David Chalupa,Lauren M. Frasier,F. Raymond Gibb,Donna M. Speers,Ying Tsai,Mark J. Utell +13 more
TL;DR: In healthy subjects, exposures to NO(2) at levels found indoors cause mild airway inflammation, effects on blood cells, and increased susceptibility of airway epithelial cells to injury from respiratory viruses.

Neutrophils in lung inflammation: Which reactive oxygen species are being measured?
Mitra Azadniv,Alfonso Torres,Joseph Boscia,Donna M. Speers,Lauren M. Frasier,Mark J. Utell,Mark W. Frampton +6 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that hydrogen peroxide, and not NO, is primarily responsible for the PMA-induced oxidation of DCFH in human PMN under these conditions.

Changes in markers of epithelial permeability and inflammation in chronic smokers switching to a nonburning tobacco device (Eclipse).
Judith C. Stewart,Richard W. Hyde,Joseph Boscia,Ming-Yan Chow,Robert E. O'Mara,Irene B. Perillo,Anthony P. Pietropaoli,Carr J. Smith,Alfonso Torres,Mark J. Utell,Mark W. Frampton +10 more
TL;DR: Switching to Eclipse reduces alveolar epithelial injury in some smokers but may increase carboxyhemoglobin levels and oxidative stress, while for healthy, lifetime nonsmokers it finds no significant effects on pulmonary function, cells in induced sputum, or exhaled nitric oxide.
