A locking assembly to secure portable or riding equipment such as skiing equipment or bicycles, scooters, mopeds, motorcycles and the like. The assembly is mounted on the hand grips of the ski poles, or the handle bars of riding equipment with no modification of the equipment required. A retractable cable and lock is used to secure the equipment to a fixed object. The assembly, when attached to the equipment, does not disturb the weight balance of the equipment. The assembly may be installed on the hand grips or handle bars at the time of the initial assembly of the equipment or thereafter.

A ski pole with automatic retractable mechanism for securing ski equipment and preventing theft. The retractor mechanism has a ratchet mechanism in which a gear is fixed to a rotatable spool on which is wound a security line and a pawl which is positioned to engage the gear and to provide a step-wise rotation of the spool. This serves to unwind the security line from the spool. The security line is rewound onto the spool by a spring which extends downward into the hollow interior of the ski pole shaft.

The invention relates to an arrangement in a hollow skiing or walking pole, said pole having at least a substantially hollow shaft part [1), a handgrip (2) in the upper part of the shaft part and a tip part (3) in the lower part of the shaft part. Inside the hollow shaft part (1) of the pole is an elastic element (4) adapted to be pulled at least partially out of the shaft part (1) and pushed at least partially back into the shaft part (1).

A security system is provided for locking ski equipment, including skis and ski poles, to each other and to a fixed anchor, the security system being part of the ski pole equipment itself. This is accomplished using a ski pole with a handle which carries a locking mechanism, and a hollow shaft which carries a flexible security line. The locking mechanism includes a double locking system which prevents release of the security line until both a first lock (preferably of the combination type) and an integrated second mechanical lock have both been positively activated by the user. The locks are designed and located for easy access and are positively controlled to release or limit the movement of the security line, preferably without a separate key. The flexible security line which is held in the shaft of the pole is capable of being removed from the shaft to form a security loop by which the pole and other articles strung on or encircled within the security loop may be connected to a fixed anchor in order that falling, movement and theft of the pole and other strung on or encircled articles can be avoided.
