The specification discloses a door light including a frame incorporated structurally into the door and a glass removable from the frame. The frame is fabricated of coextruded members each having a coextruded seal of lower durometer. Removable glass retainers or glazing stops are snap-fitted within the frame to retain the glass against the seal. Preferably, the glass retainers are biased against the glass to improve the seal and to accommodate glasses having slight thickness variations.

A window frame and a glazing strip or rim for a window panel in which the frame defining a window has a J-shaped channel with its open side facing toward the opening in the frame. The panel is surrounded on at least three sides of a rectangular panel by the glazing strip or rim which has a leg integral therewith and which is received in the frame channel. Such leg is flexible and resilient and can be bent to permit the free end thereof to ride over the shorter wall of the channel and snap into the channel. Preferably, the portion of the rim from which the leg extends is U-shaped in cross-section and embraces the outer edge portions of the panel. A resilient gasket is between the rim and the frame. If the rim is of metal, the wall of the rim remote from the frame has a line of weakening for tearing purposes. A resilient strip may be inserted between the leg and a portion of the rim. Also, a tool for inserting the panel in the frame and a double-glazed window.

Window glazing system

A window construction includes longitudinally channeled framing strips of right angular cross section attached to the four faces of a window casing or to a storm door window opening. Boundary edge portions of a pane closing the window opening are attached to the framing strips by resilient angular bead strips. The pane may comprise either a flexible plastic membrane, a rigid or semi-rigid self-supporting sheet or screening. The bead strips include two long bead flange portions extending at generally right angles from a body portion and a short rib portion extending from the outside corner at the intersection between the two bead flange portions. The rib portion and one bead flange portion are squeezed into opposed grooves in the channel portion of a framing strip to compress the pane in position against at least one inside surface of the framing strip.

A plastic glazing profile for mounting a glass pane in an existing wooden frame comprises a supporting face having at one end thereof an element for fixing a glass pane by means of projections. At its other end the profile comprises a glass pane abutment and opposite thereto a profile abutment edge. The profile abutment edge being the bottom of an abutment edge chamber, is provided with apertures forming outlets for water flowing from a gutter space through bores into said chamber. The profile abutment edge is able to engage a sealing strip through a projecting portion.

A thermal barrier is mounted in a window opening in inwardly spaced relationship with respect to the existing window in the opening. The thermal barrier is comprised of individual channel members mounted on the header, sill and upright side members of the window frame so as to provide a peripheral opening about the window facing inwardly of the window opening. A sheet of rigid thermoplastic film material has horizontal and vertical edges received in a corresponding portion of the opening provided by the channel members, and the edges of the sheet are frictionally interengaged with corresponding side walls of the channel members by U-shaped retaining members removably received in each of the channel members with the legs of the U extending toward the bottom wall of the channel. The upper edge of the sheet is provided with a flange integral with the sheet along a fold line therebetween, and one of the legs of the retaining member received in the channel member mounted on the header component of the window frame engages the sheet along the fold line to vertically hold the sheet in the corresponding channel member.

A glazing assembly comprises hollow frame members 2 of metal or hard plastics, one side of which has a platform 6 for receiving one edge of the pane 7 and an upstanding flange 5 against which a marginal portion of one face pane 7 can bear and at the opposite edge of the frame member 2 a hook formation 8 is provided with which a clip or bead 9 of springy plastics engages by a suitably formed edge 11, and with a portion 19 which bears against the pane. The platform may be undercut with a groove 18 which receives a projection 17 of the clip and the flange 19 is of more flexible material than the remainder of the clip and can be extruded as an integral whole from suitable types of P.V.C. In an alternative construction the items 5, 6, 8, 18 are formed integrally with the hollow frame member and may be provided on two adjacent sides either of the tubular member or of an auxiliary member as shown at 2, to fit over the tubular member, the flanges 5 being adjacent the same longitudinal edge of the frame or auxiliary member.
