The device comprises a core, surrounded by a thin sheath so as to form a chamber that can be inflated. Inflation is done while the device is inside the ear, using an inflation tool. The tool injects a solid-setting fluid into the chamber. After curing, the tool is detached, leaving a finished in-ear unit, upon which no further manufacturing processing is required.

The transducer having an outer casing and at least one moving member extending outside the casing. The invention comprising a hermetically sealed bellows member having two ends and a generally cylindrical side wall. The disclosed methods and devices incorporate a novel expandable bubble portion which provides superior fidelity to a listener while minimizing listener fatigue. The expandable bubble portion may be expanded through the transmission of low frequency audio signals or the pumping of a gas to the expandable bubble portion. In addition, embodiments of the acoustic device may be adapted to consistently and comfortably fit to any ear, providing for a variable, impedance matching acoustic seal to both the tympanic membrane and the audio transducer, respectively, while isolating the sound-vibration chamber within the driven bubble. This reduces the effect of gross audio transducer vibration excursions on the tympanic membrane and transmits the audio content in a manner which allows the ear to utilize its full inherent capabilities.

A plug-type hearing device comprising a sound-leading portion being inserted into the auditory miatus, a first envelope attached around the sound-leading portion, a second envelope being positioned at the outside of the auditory miatus and being communicated with the first envelope through a pipe, and a holding means for holding an expanded state of the first envelope when the volume of the latter is increased, wherein the volume of the second envelope is decreased to increase the volume of the first envelope by the pressure of a fluid contained inside, and the expanded first envelope is closely contacted with the wall surface of the auditory miatus.

Plug-type hearing device

A receiver module configured to be seated within an ear canal and optimized for simultaneously inflating an inflatable membrane while generating acoustic waves transmitted to a user. The inflatable membrane can be used to secure the receiver module within the bony portion of the ear canal of the user. A multi-layer valve system and method of assembly are disclosed for a valve system to harvest static pressure from acoustic waves generated within the receiver and direct the increased pressure toward the inflatable membrane to inflate the membrane. The multi-layer valve system can be used to prevent a back flow of air and thereby maintain a static pressure differential between ambient air drawn in through an air ingress port and air forced into the inflatable membrane through an air egress port.

An earpiece is provided for insertion in the ear canal and comprises a tube for conducting sound pressures to the ear canal. The sound pressure tube has a fluid expandable means surrounding the tube and means is provided for forcing fluid into the expandable means to cause it to expand into close fitting contact with the wall of the canal.
