A fluid container assembly (12) which can be aseptically filled in the field with selected fluids and one which is specially designed for sterile coupling and use with fluid dispensing and delivery devices of the character that embody stored energy sources (58) such as compressible cellular masses and distendible elastomeric membranes that form, in conjunction with a cooperating base (56), fluid chambers for containing the fluid to be dispensed.

Fluid delivery apparatus

A closed system, needleless valve device includes a generally tubular body defining an internal cavity. On the proximal end of the body there is an opening which is preferably sufficiently large to receive an ANSI standard tip of a medical implement. The distal end of the body has a generally tubular skirt. The valve also includes a hollow spike having a closed tip. The spike includes at least one longitudinal 18-gauge hole located distal the tip, and is seated inside the cavity such that the tip is below the proximal end of the body. An annular support cuff is connected to the spike which seals off a portion of the cavity of the body such that an upper cavity containing the tip is defined. The valve also includes a plastic, resilient silicone seal which fills the upper cavity and opening and covers the tip of the spike so as to present a flush surface. An adaptor enables the valve to be attached to a resealable container.

Medical valve and method of use

A connector device is disclosed for establishing fluid communication between a diluent container having sidewalls and a drug vial. The connector has a piercing member having a first end and a second end and a central fluid pathway. The piercing member is mounted to the liquid container and has fluid accessing portions hermetically sealed from an outside environment. A vial receiving chamber is associated with the piercing member and is dimensioned to connect to the vial. The vial may be selectively attached to the device without piercing the closure of the vial and without breaching the hermetic seal of the fluid accessing portions of the piercing member. Means are provided for connecting the vial receiving chamber to the liquid container. The device is movable from an inactivated position, where the piercing member is outside the sidewalls and no fluid flows between the liquid container and the drug vial, to an activated position, where fluid flows through the fluid pathway between the liquid container and the drug vial. The device is movable from the inactivated position to the activated position by a force applied to the device outside the liquid container.

Sliding reconstitution device for a diluent container

The present invention provides a connector device (10) for establishing fluid communication between a first container (12) and a second container (14). The device (10) has a first sleeve member (30) having a first end (40) and a second end (42), the first sleeve member (30) having at the first end (40) a first attaching member adapted to attach to the first container (12). The device (10) further has a second sleeve member (32) having a first end (80) and a second end (82), the second sleeve member (32) being associated with the first sleeve member (30) and movable with respect thereto from an inactivated position to an activated position, the second sleeve member (32) having at the second end (82) a second attaching member adapted to attach the second sleeve member (32) to the second container (14). First and second piercing members (34) project from one of the first and second sleeve members (30, 32) for providing a fluid flow path from the first container (12) to the second container (14), and the first and second piercing members (34) are independently hermetically sealed.

Sliding reconstitution device with seal

A needleless injection site comprising a housing defining proximal and distal ends and including a reseal member disposed therein. The reseal member has an elastically openable and closable aperture formed therein, and normally resides within the housing in a closed position wherein the aperture is in a closed configuration. The reseal member is deformable such that the application of distally directed pressure thereto will cause the reseal member to distally advance within the housing to an open position wherein the aperture assumes an open configuration. The removal of the distally directed pressure from the reseal member will cause it to resiliently return to the closed position wherein the aperture assumes the closed configuration.

Drug delivery apparatus and method preventing local and systemic toxicity

An apparatus (60) is provided for the safe, passive reconstitution of a drug or other beneficial agent, without requiring manual reconstitution steps. The apparatus (60) includes a housing (78), preferably having a receptacle (80) "in-line" in an administration set and forming part of an intravenous delivery system, and cartridge (82) adapted for receiving a beneficial agent or beneficial agent and carrier. The cartridge (82) is plugged into the receptacle (80) to initiate reconstitution of the agent. The apparatus (60) creates first and second delivery modes, in which the delivery rate of the agent to a patient is independent from and dependent upon, respectively, the fluid flow rate through the intravenous delivery system.

Drug delivery apparatus preventing local and systemic toxicity

Apparatus for safe delivery of a beneficial agent to a patient comprising a chamber (98) for the agent through which a fluid passes to the patient and means for controlling the rate of delivery in two alternative modes. In the first mode fluid flow through the chamber is high enough to provide delivery of the agent at a rate independent of the actual fluid flow rate to provide a therapeutic dose of the agent in approximately thirty minutes. In the second mode, the fluid flow rate in the chamber is low enough for rate delivery of the agent to be at least partially dependent on fluid flow rate through the chamber. The control means ensures that a toxic concentration is not delivered to the patient nor develops in the patient's bloodstream. The control means may take various forms.
