A flip-flop circuit includes an evaluation part connected to a first node and a second node to discharge the second node according to a voltage level of the first node, a conditional delay part connected to the second node to discharge a third node to have a voltage level different from a voltage level of the second node, and a keeper logic part connected to the second node and third node to maintain a voltage level of one of the second and third nodes being not discharged.

A storage cell having a pulse generator and a storage element is proposed. The storage element input is connected to receive a data input signal. The storage element output is connected to provide a data output signal. The storage element is operable in one of a data retention state and a data transfer state in response to a storage control signal received from the pulse generator. The pulse generator is connected to receive a clock signal with rising and falling clock signal edges and is adapted to provide control pulses in the storage control signal. Each control pulse has a leading edge and a trailing edge. The control pulses have a polarity suited to invoke the data transfer state on their leading edges. The novel feature is that the pulse generator is adapted to initiate a rising-edge control pulse when receiving a rising clock signal edge and to initiate a falling-edge control pulse when receiving a falling clock signal edge. In this way, a dual-edge-triggered flip-flop may be made using only combinatorial logic circuitry and one level- or single-edge-triggered storage element. The storage cell has low power consumption, facilitates scan testing and can be used by existing design tools and test equipment.

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a flip flop circuit that obviates the need of a transmission gate. The flip flop includes a first match multiplexer, a second match multiplexer and a separable inverter. The first match multiplexer receives an input data signal and generates a feedback output based on the input data signal and the logic levels at two nodes coupled to the first match multiplexer. The separable inverter receives the feedback output and switches the logic level of one of two nodes but maintains the logic level per each clock cycle. The second match multiplexer generates a signal output based on the logic levels at the two nodes and the signal output that is fed back into the second match multiplexer. Embodiments may reduce power consumption and operate at lower voltages.

The method includes receiving a clock signal, receiving a data signal, applying the data signal to the sense amplifier when the clock signal is at a low level, wherein a portion of the sense amplifier is responsive to the inverted clock signal, storing a value of the data signal in the slave latch when the clock signal transitions from the low level to the high level, and providing an output signal from the slave latch.

A flip-flop circuit includes a data capture circuit that captures data based on a clock, a data hold circuit that holds an output of the data capture circuit based on the clock, and a timing control circuit that controls coupling between the output of the data capture circuit and the data hold circuit based on the clock, when the data capture circuit captures new data based on the clock, the timing control circuit performing control so as to temporarily interrupt the coupling between the output of the data capture circuit and the data hold circuit.

An Asymmetric Sense-Amp Flip-Flop (ASAFF) is disclosed that may achieve zero setup time and short clock-to-Q delays. The ASAFF captures input data at a clock transition by setting values of a first node and a second node in a manner that is input data value dependent. If the input data is at the first input data value, the first node is set and held at a first storage value after a first delay, and the second node is set and held at a second storage value after a second delay, and if the input data is at a second input data value, the first node is set and held at a third storage value after a third delay, and the second node is set and held at a fourth storage value, after a fourth delay. This internal-path dependent difference in delay enables ASAFF to achieve zero setup time.
