External ventricular drain infections are independent of drain duration: an argument against elective revision.
Cheng H Lo,Dennis Spelman,Michael Bailey,Jamie Cooper,Jeffrey V. Rosenfeld,John E. Brecknell +5 more
TL;DR: This pattern of infection is best explained by EVD-associated CSF infections being acquired by the introduction of bacteria on insertion of the drain rather than by subsequent retrograde colonization.

Age of red blood cells and transfusion in critically ill patients
TL;DR: This review supports the need for large, randomized, controlled trials evaluating the clinical impact of transfusing fresh (short duration of storage) versus older (extended duration ofstorage) red cells in critically ill patients and highlights the equipoise that currently exists with regard to the use of short versus current standard (extension) storage duration red cells.
A State-of-the-Science Overview of Randomized Controlled Trials Evaluating Acute Management of Moderate-to-Severe Traumatic Brain Injury.
Peter Bragge,Anneliese Synnot,Andrew I R Maas,David K. Menon,Jamie Cooper,Jeffrey V. Rosenfeld,Russell L. Gruen +6 more
TL;DR: More sophisticated RCT design, large multi- centers in priority areas, increased focus on pre-clinical research, and alternatives to RCTs, such as comparative effectiveness research and precision medicine, are needed to fully realize the potential of acute TBI research to benefit patients.

Current controversies in the management of patients with severe traumatic brain injury
Alexios A Adamides,Craig Winter,Philip Lewis,Jamie Cooper,Thomas Kossmann,Jeffrey V. Rosenfeld +5 more
TL;DR: A large number of patients with traumatic brain injury have responded to the ‘cerebral perfusion pressure‐targeted’ and ‘volume‐targeting’ management strategies for optimizing cerebrovascular haemodynamics and specific interventions, such as hyperventilation, osmotherapy, cerebrospinal fluid drainage, barbiturates, decompressive craniectomy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
