HOPON (Hyperbaric Oxygen for the Prevention of Osteoradionecrosis): A Randomized Controlled Trial of Hyperbaric Oxygen to Prevent Osteoradionecrosis of the Irradiated Mandible After Dentoalveolar Surgery.

Jackson,Anastios Kanatas,Peter Nixon,James McCaul,Prav Praveen,Terry Lowe,Manuel Blanco-Guzman,Lone Forner,Peter A. Brennan,M.J. TL;DR: The low incidence of ORN makes recommending HBO for dental extractions or implant placement in the irradiated mandible unnecessary, and these findings are in contrast with a recently published Cochrane review and previous trials reporting rates of OrN of 14% to 30% and challenge a long-established standard of care.
Evidence based management of Bell's palsy
TL;DR: This work summarises current published articles regarding early management strategies to maximise recovery of facial nerve function and minimise long-term sequelae in Bell's palsy.

Sirtuins, bioageing, and cancer.
TL;DR: The current understanding of the role of Sirtuins in age-related diseases is discussed while taking a closer look at their roles and functions in maintaining genomic stability and their influence on telomerase and telomere function.

High levels of telomere dysfunction bestow a selective disadvantage during the progression of human oral squamous cell carcinoma
Katrina E. Gordon,Hazel Ireland,Meryl Roberts,Karen Steeghs,James McCaul,D. Gordon MacDonald,E. Kenneth Parkinson +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that a substantial proportion of oral SCCs in vivo ultimately arise from telomerase-deficient keratinocytes rather than putative telomersase-proficient cells in the undifferentiated parts of the epithelium, and the presence of significant levels of telomere dysfunction in a high proportion of S CCs at diagnosis but not in the normal epithelia implies that the therapeutic inhibition of telomerases should selectively compromise the growth of such tumors.

A dielectrophoretic method of discrimination between normal oral epithelium, and oral and oropharyngeal cancer in a clinical setting
K. A. Graham,H. J. Mulhall,Fatima H. Labeed,Mark P. Lewis,Kai F. Hoettges,Nicholas Kalavrezos,James McCaul,C. Liew,Stephen Porter,Stefano Fedele,Michael P. Hughes +10 more
TL;DR: DEP has the potential to be developed into a low-cost, rapid platform as an assistive tool for the early identification of oral cancer in primary care; given the rapid, minimally-invasive and non-expensive nature of the test, dielectric characterization represents a promising platform for cost-effective early cancer detection.
