Repeated, long-term cycling of putative stem cells between niches in a basal chordate
Yuval Rinkevich,Ayelet Voskoboynik,Amalia Rosner,Claudette Rabinowitz,Guy Paz,Matan Oren,Jacob Douek,Gilad Alfassi,Elizabeth Moiseeva,Katherine J. Ishizuka,Karla J. Palmeri,Irving L. Weissman,B. Rinkevich +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that repeated trafficking of stem cells allows them to escape constraints imposed by the niche, enabling self-preservation throughout life.

The resurrection of Charybdis (Gonioinfradens) giardi (Nobili, 1905), newly recorded from the SE Mediterranean Sea.
Bella S. Galil,Jacob Douek,Roy Gevili,Menachem Goren,Yana Yudkovsky,Guy Paz,Baruch Rinekvich +6 more
TL;DR: Morphological characters, as well as molecular analyses based on the mitochondrial barcoding gene cytochrome oxidase sub unit I (COI), support G. giardi's distinction from the widely distributed G. paucidentata.

Heterozygote deficiency and chimerism in remote populations of a colonial ascidian from New Zealand
TL;DR: Comparisons with Californian and Israeli populations further support the generally accepted dogma that B. schlosseri is of a Mediterranean Sea origin, and suggest different founders for New Zealand and Californian coasts.
Development of a PCR strategy for thraustochytrid identification based on 18S rDNA sequence
TL;DR: Three sets of primers based on the 18S rDNA sequence alignment of known strains and a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) strategy were employed to identify unknown thraustochytrid isolates, showing that each isolate is different, although isolates within each group may belong to the same species, in spite of differences found in the general morphology.

Native, invasive and cryptogenic Ulva species from the Israeli Mediterranean Sea: risk and potential
Nimrod Krupnik,Guy Paz,Jacob Douek,Efraim Lewinsohn,Alvaro Israel,Nava Carmel,Frédéric Mineur,Christine A. Maggs +7 more
TL;DR: Six Ulva species are identified, three of which are new records for Israel and probably originate from the Indo-Pacific, and two fairly distinct morphologies correlated with different haplotypes for both genes are identified.
