A method and apparatus for measuring and displaying the vital signs of a patient wearing an alpha-numeric identification bracelet, including a temperature sensing probe for making body contact with the patient, a portable, data-gathering acquisition unit and electronic anticipation circuitry disposed in the acquisition unit and coupled to the probe for sensing the change in patient temperature and predicting the stabilized temperature of the patient. There is a digital read-out coupled to the anticipated circuitry for indicating the predicted stabilized temperature of the patient, and an alpha-numeric sensor coupled to the acquisition unit and responsive to the alpha-numeric code for reading the code to identify the patient. The system also has a data storage memory coupled to the digital read-out and the anticipation circuitry for storing the predicted stabilized temperature and the indentification of the patient. The system further includes a pulse sensor disposed in the acquisition unit for detecting the pulse rate of the patient. The pulse sensor is coupled to the digital read-out and the data memory for storing the patient's pulse rate. A console is provided having a visual display, a digital keyboard for selecting identification concerning the patient, and a means for electronically producing patient vital-sign data on the visual display of said console in response to the keyboard. The console is coupled to the acquisition unit.

An electrostatic recorder includes first drive pulse generators each for generating high voltage pulses in response to recording signals and second drive pulse generators so driven in turn as to generate high voltage pulses in response to outputs from a ring counter. Outputs from said first drive pulse generators are respectively supplied to recording electrodes via diodes, and outputs from said second drive pulse generators are respectively supplied to the corresponding electrode groups of said recording electrodes via respective resistors connected to the recording electrodes of the electrode groups in a manner corresponding thereto.

Electrostatic recorder with three state switching

An electrographic writing system including an electrographic writing head operatively connected to a switching system is disclosed. The electrographic writing head includes a plurality of electrically conducting styluses arranged to produce an electrostatic charge on a record medium which is normally dielectric coated paper. The styluses are supported by an insulating material, and one of the ends of each of the styluses is either substantially flush with one end of the writing head or slightly recessed. The other ends of the styluses act as part of a connecting means to the switching system. The switching system includes a plurality of diode assemblies. Each diode assembly has a sequence of diode switching circuits including a first high stored charge or slow diode, a second low stored charge or fast diode in series therewith and a capacitor. The capacitor has one end connected between the diodes and the other end to ground or a dynamic voltage. A stylus is connected to each capacitor and a transistor setup switch is operatively connected to a plurality of diode switching circuits, including one from each of the diode assemblies. Electrical drive means, i.e. a voltage source, is operatively connected to and controls the input to the diode assemblies. A positive bias and a clamping diode may be used with the transistor setup switch to prevent damage thereto and prevent the stylus from going positive under certain conditions.

Electrical switching system

A head for magnetizing a broad magnetic tape or the like to form magnetic images representing lines of high quality characters or other images, including a large number of closely-spaced recorder elements, such as two thousand spaced a few thousandths inches apart, the elements having parallel strip portions with recording locations therealong. The elements are arranged in groups, with the elements in one group having a common enlarged interconnected region on one side of the recording locations and with each element in the group having a separate enlarged terminal on the other side of the line of recording locations. The terminals are arranged in a staggered fashion, so that the elements located progressively closer to one end of the group have terminals located progressively further from the line of recording locations. The groups are arranged so that every other group has its common interconnect region on one side of an imaginary recording line while the groups in between have their common regions on the other side of the line. This arrangement provides large common areas and large terminals to which connections can be made, even though the strip portion of each element is very narrow.

An electrographic printer having a multiplex matrix type driving circuit for the printing styli, thereby reducing the number of high voltage switches needed to drive the styli. The styli are grouped into N groups, each containing M styli. A first set of N selectively actuable driving circuits are connected by unidirectionally conductive means to the styli of the corresponding groups, and a second set of M selectively actuable driving circuits are connected by resistive means to the corresponding styli from each of the groups. Means are also provided for selectively simultaneously activating one of said driving circuits from said first set, and selected ones of said driving circuits from said second set, for depositing charge on the paper in image configuration.
