Comparative analysis of a large dataset indicates that internal transcribed spacer (ITS) should be incorporated into the core barcode for seed plants.
De-Zhu Li,Lian-Ming Gao,Hong Tao Li,Hong Wang,Xue-Jun Ge,Jianquan Liu,Zhi-Duan Chen,Shi Liang Zhou,Shilin Chen,Jun-Bo Yang,Cheng-Xin Fu,Chun-Xia Zeng,Hai Fei Yan,Yingjie Zhu,Yongshuai Sun,Si Yun Chen,Lei Zhao,Kun Wang,Tuo Yang,Guang Wen Duan +19 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that ITS/ITS2 should be incorporated into the core barcode for seed plants, because in cases where it is difficult to amplify and directly sequence ITS in its entirety, just using ITS2 is a useful backup because it is easier to amplified and sequence this subset of the marker.

Should genes with missing data be excluded from phylogenetic analyses
TL;DR: It is found that excluding genes with missing data often decreases accuracy relative to including these genes, and that decreases are generally of greater magnitude than increases, there is little basis for assuming that excluding these genes is necessarily the safer or more conservative approach.

Molecular phylogeny of the nettle family (Urticaceae) inferred from multiple loci of three genomes and extensive generic sampling.
Zeng-Yuan Wu,Alex K. Monro,Alex K. Monro,Richard I. Milne,Richard I. Milne,Hong Wang,Ting-Shuang Yi,Jie Liu,De-Zhu Li +8 more
TL;DR: The results clarify that some morphological characters have been overstated and others understated in previous classifications of the Urticaceae family, and provide a strong foundation for future studies on biogeography, character evolution, and circumscription of difficult genera.

Advances in the Plant Isoprenoid Biosynthesis Pathway and Its Metabolic Engineering
TL;DR: Recent advances in the discoveries and regulatory roles of new genes and enzymes in the plastidial isoprenoid biosynthesis pathway are reviewed and examples of the metabolic engineering of cytosolic and plastinoids biosynthesis are discussed.

Plant DNA barcoding in China
De-Zhu Li,Jianquan Liu,Zhi-Duan Chen,Hong Wang,Ge Xuejun,Shiliang Zhou,Lian-Ming Gao,Cheng-Xin Fu,Shilin Chen +8 more
TL;DR: DNA barcoding has been greatly promoted to provide tools for the recognition of species as an improvement on or supplement to tradi-tionalmorphology-basedtaxonomy and is expected to mitigate, at least in part, this dilemma.
