Dynamic change of proximal conduction in demyelinating neuropathies : a cervical magnetic stimulation combined with maximum voluntary contraction
Takefumi Hitomi,Ryuji Kaji,Nagako Murase,Nagako Murase,Nobuo Kohara,Takahiro Mezaki,Hiroyuki Nodera,Takashi Kawamura,Akio Ikeda,Hiroshi Shibasaki,Hiroshi Shibasaki +10 more
TL;DR: In DN patients, conduction abnormality in the nerves innervating the proximal muscles was revealed by cervical magnetic stimulation combined with the MVC maneuver, and two of three DN patients who showed normal motor threshold or latency as in MND were successfully differentiated from MND by the M VC maneuver.

Late-onset spastic paraplegia type 10 (SPG10) family presenting with bulbar symptoms and fasciculations mimicking amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Seiji Kaji,Seiji Kaji,Toshitaka Kawarai,Ryosuke Miyamoto,Hiroyuki Nodera,Lucia Pedace,Antonio Orlacchio,Yuishin Izumi,Ryosuke Takahashi,Ryuji Kaji +9 more
TL;DR: The first known Asian family with a Kif5A mutation is described and the clinical and electrophysiological spectrum associated with KIF5A-SPG10 mutations is broadened, given that cases showed pseudobulbar palsy, fasciculation and altered penetrance, KIF-SPg10 might well be considered as a differential diagnosis of sporadic ALS.

Upregulation of axonal HCN current by methylglyoxal: Potential association with diabetic polyneuropathy
Yoshimitsu Shimatani,Hiroyuki Nodera,Yusuke Osaki,Chimeglkham Banzrai,Kazuhiro Takayasu,Sachiko Endo,Yoshiko Shibuta,Ryuji Kaji +7 more
TL;DR: Hyperexcitability in diabetic polyneuropathy may be caused by dysfunctional axonal hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels, and a future study with a large sample size of the diabetic patients would clarify this hypothesis.

Abnormal gating of axonal slow potassium current in cramp-fasciculation syndrome (P3.171)
Yoshimitsu Shimatani,Hiroyuki Nodera,Shibuta Yoshiko,Miyazaki Yoshimichi,Sonoko Misawa,Satoshi Kuwabara,Ryuji Kaji +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that patients with CFS might have abnormal kinetics in a slow K(+) current, and relatively economical and non-invasive nerve-excitability testing can identify ion channel dysfunction in vivo when combined with numerical modeling.
