Validation of the identity of the user is performed with the use of a card associated with intelligence that identifies the user. Validation of the document involves one or more of: validating the presence of a signature; validating the amount of the monetary transaction document including a manual entry of the amount by the user; validating CAR against the LAR; and validating the banking system parameters and rules for the customer and/or the transaction. To assist in the automatic analysis of data on monetary transactional documents or on remittance documents, the user is prompted to provide a bounding box about the data. An image touch screen may be touched by the user to locate the bounding box and the user may magnify the data to fill the boundary box to exclude other data from analysis. After document and person validation, the system will dispense money or transfer monies to a savings account, a checking account, a smart card, or the like. The system will also write money orders or wire transfer money.

Automated document cashing system

A method and apparatus are provided for conducting transactions through a financial network using a document such as a check or money order at an unattended automated machine. For security purposes a signature detector detects the signature and the user uses a card to operate the machine. A reader reads the amount on the document; and, for a check, the LAR and CAR amounts are compared. If the document is a money order, the user may be prompted to endorse the money order if the signature detector fails to detect a signature. A card writer writes an amount on the card related to the amount of the transaction being done and a calculator calculates the amount to be written on the card and subtracts a user's service charge. A bill may be paid and a receipt generator will provide a receipt preferably showing payment of the bill and the service charge. If the check or money order is for an amount greater than the bill and service charge amounts, the card writer may write the difference on the card. A portion of the check or money order may also be deposited in the user's account. A cash acceptor in the machine accepts cash and a cash dispenser may dispense cash.

Automated banking system for dispensing money orders, wire transfer and bill payment

An unattended banking machine such as an ATM machine has a payment acceptor for accepting payment from the machine user and for determining the amount of payment from the user. A calculator determines the transactional difference between the amount of the transaction and the payment by the user. In ATM machines service fees may be charged to the ATM user for issuing a money order or for a wire transfer that are not in even multiples of the smallest denomination of the currency being dispensed by the ATM machine. The preferred cash dispenser has only bills of different denominations and no coins. To pay the transactional difference without the use of very small denomination currency and/or coins the transactional difference is divided into a cash payment portion which is dispensed in bills from the machine's cash dispenser. The remainder of the transactional payment is paid electronically to the ATM user either on a card, such as a smart card, or into the user's ATM account as an electronic remainder payment portion. The ATM machine includes a card reader and card writer to add the electronic payment portion to the balance on the card. The ATM machine may perform a number of other transactions such as cashing a check, paying a bill, and purchasing an item.

Automated banking system for making change on a card or user account

An automatic bank note transaction apparatus comprises a first unit detachably mounted in a housing and including safes disposed at one side thereof and a second unit provided in the housing, adjacent to and detachably mounted on the first unit and connected to a bank note dispensing port of the housing. Since the first unit can be turned back to front with respect to the second unit, the most suitable operating mode, that is, a front-operation mode or a rear-operation mode, can be arbitrarily set in accordance with the installation position of the apparatus. Therefore, the bank can install and deploy the apparatus in any location, resulting in low cost and convenience.

A bill handling apparatus of the recycle type having a bill receiving system and a bill disbursing system. The bill receiving system includes a bill insertion opening, a bill discriminating unit, a unit for arranging bills so that the front and back sides of the bills face in the same direction and for accumulating the bills, and bill-receiving boxes for receiving bills according to denomination. The bills to be deposited are fed from the bill insertion opening, via the discriminating unit, to the bill arranging and pooling unit and, thereafter, via the discriminating unit, to the bill receiving boxes. The bill disbursing system is constructed so that the bills received in the bill receiving boxes are fed, via the discriminating unit, to a bill disbursing opening.

An automatic money receiving and disbursing machine having the functions of receiving money from customers and disbursing money to customers from a box disposed within the machine. The machine is provided with a circulation path in communication with a transacting section to receive or disburse the notes therethrough. A portion of the circulation path is in communication with the disbursing box for receiving the notes disbursed from the disbursing box. Another portion of the circulation path is in communication with a note receiving box. A discrimination section is provided in the circulation path to discriminate the notes received or the notes disbursed. In the disbursing mode, when an abnormal note is found by discrimination, all the notes are discriminated again by passing the notes through the discrimination section via the circulation path.
