Sign Language Recognition
Helen Cooper,Brian Holt,Richard Bowden +2 more
- 01 Jan 2011
TL;DR: This chapter covers the key aspects of sign-language recognition (SLR), starting with a brief introduction to the motivations and requirements, followed by a precis of sign linguistics and their impact on the field.
Sign language recognition using sub-units
TL;DR: This paper discusses sign language recognition using linguistic sub-units, presenting three types of sub- units for consideration; those learnt from appearance data as well as those inferred from both 2D or 3D tracking data.
Use of health services by children and young people according to ethnicity and social class: secondary analysis of a national survey
TL;DR: There was no evidence that children and young people's use of health services varied according to their socioeconomic status, suggesting that equity has been achieved, and a child or young person's ethnic origin was clearly associated with use of general practitioner and hospital services.

Sign Language Recognition using Sequential Pattern Trees
Eng-Jon Ong,Helen Cooper,Nicolas Pugeault,Richard Bowden +3 more
- 16 Jun 2012
TL;DR: This paper presents a novel, discriminative, multi-class classifier based on Sequential Pattern Trees that is efficient to learn, and scalable for use with large classifier banks, well suited to Sign Language Recognition.
Learning signs from subtitles: A weakly supervised approach to sign language recognition
Helen Cooper,Richard Bowden +1 more
- 20 Jun 2009
TL;DR: A fully automated, unsupervised method to recognise sign from subtitles is introduced by using data mining to align correspondences in sections of videos using head and hand tracking and a proposed contextual negative selection method.
