Characteristics of α-crystallin related to fiber cell development in calf eye lenses
TL;DR: In this paper, α-crystallin was isolated from extracts of the epithelium, from seven successive concentric layers of the cortex and the nucleus of calf lenses, from 6 M urea.

Specific polypeptides in prenatal bovine alpha-crystallin.
TL;DR: The development of the eye lens in the prenatal phase is accompanied by a gradual change in the polypeptide composition of α-crystallin, and as the lens matures from that of a 6-week-old embryo to that of an new-born calf, there is a successive appearance of differentpolypeptides.

Reaggregation studies on the polypeptide chains of calf lens α-crystallin
TL;DR: All reaggregates showed the same sedimentation coefficient and their electrophoretic mobilities reflected only in part the mixing ratio of the polypeptide chains, but the aggregates with a high quantity of acidic chains did not, or only partially, incorporate the basic chains.

Heterogeneity, aging and polypeptide composition of α-crystallin from calf lens
TL;DR: Evidence has been obtained for the interaction of α-crystallin with constituents of β- Crystallin which may lead to the formation of very high-molecular, finally insoluble aggregates.

The soluble proteins of the prenatal bovine eye lens.
TL;DR: Weight, shape, protein content and protein composition as well as leucine aminopeptidase activity were determined as a function of age and Alpha-crystallin turned out to be the most prominent embryonic crystallin.
