Trophic structure of a cold-water coral mound community (Rockall Bank, NE Atlantic) in relation to the near-bottom particle supply and current regime
TL;DR: The collected data point to a simplified food web in the coral community sustained by an advection of fresh particles derived from production higher on the bank, which cannot be explained simply by enhanced currents relative to the adjacent plain and gully.

Scleractinian cold-water corals in the Gulf of Cadiz—First clues about their spatial and temporal distribution
Claudia Wienberg,Dierk Hebbeln,Hiske G Fink,Furu Mienis,Boris Dorschel,Agostina Vertino,Matthias López Correa,André Freiwald +7 more
- 01 Oct 2009
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the first compilation of information on the spatial distribution of scleractinian cold-water corals in the Gulf of Cadiz based on literature research and own observations (video footage, sediment samples).

Carbonate mound development at the SW Rockall Trough margin based on high resolution TOBI and seismic recording
Furu Mienis,T.C.E. van Weering,H. de Haas,H.C. de Stigter,Veerle A.I. Huvenne,Andrew J. Wheeler +5 more
TL;DR: In 2002, high-resolution TOBI images of a mound area at the SW Rockall Trough margin were recorded with the TOBI deep towed sidescan sonar.

Glacial cold-water coral growth in the Gulf of Cádiz: Implications of increased palaeo-productivity
Claudia Wienberg,Norbert Frank,Kenneth Neil Mertens,Jan-Berend W Stuut,Margarita Marchant,Jan Fietzke,Furu Mienis,Dierk Hebbeln +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a set of 40 Uranium-series datings obtained on the reef-forming scleractinian cold-water corals Lophelia pertusa and Madrepora oculata revealed that during the past 400 kyr their occurrence in the Gulf of Cadiz (GoC) was almost exclusively restricted to glacial periods.

Near-bed particle deposition and resuspension in a cold-water coral mound area at the Southwest Rockall Trough margin, NE Atlantic
Furu Mienis,H.C. de Stigter,H. de Haas,T.C.E. van Weering +3 more
- 01 Jun 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, bottom landers equipped with sensors recording near-bottom current dynamics were deployed at two sites in a mound area on the Southwest Rockall Trough margin, one with a dense coral cover and one without coral cover.
