cGMP Signals Modulate cAMP Levels in a Compartment-Specific Manner to Regulate Catecholamine-Dependent Signaling in Cardiac Myocytes
Alessandra Stangherlin,Frank Gesellchen,Anna Zoccarato,Anna Terrin,Laura Ashley Fields,Marco Berrera,Nicoletta C. Surdo,Margaret A. Craig,Godfrey L. Smith,Graham Hamilton,Manuela Zaccolo +10 more
TL;DR: CGMP signals exert opposing effects on local cAMP levels via different PDEs the activity of which is exerted in spatially distinct subcellular domains, and inhibition of PDE2 selectively abolishes the negative effects of cGMP on cAMP and may have therapeutic potential.

Characterization of A-kinase-anchoring disruptors using a solution-based assay
Anne Jorunn Stokka,Frank Gesellchen,Cathrine R. Carlson,John D. Scott,Friedrich W. Herberg,Kjetil Taskén +5 more
TL;DR: The development of the Amplified Luminescent Proximity Homogeneous Assay (AlphaScreen) is reported as a means to characterize AKAP-based peptide competitors of PKA anchoring, and it is observed that the kinetics of RII displacement from pre-formed PKA-AKAP complex formation by Ht31 differed by an order of magnitude when the component parts were mixed in vitro.

Controlling acoustic streaming in an ultrasonic heptagonal tweezers with application to cell manipulation.
Anne L. Bernassau,Peter Glynne-Jones,Frank Gesellchen,Mathis O. Riehle,Martyn Hill,David R. S. Cumming +5 more
TL;DR: It was found that, in an optimised structure, Eckart streaming could be reduced to negligible levels so that a sonotweezers device with a large working area of up to 13 mm × 13 mm could be made.

Biomolecular interaction analysis in functional proteomics
Daniela Moll,Anke Prinz,Frank Gesellchen,Stephan Drewianka,Bastian Zimmermann,Friedrich W. Herberg +5 more
TL;DR: The cAMP dependent protein kinase (PKA) was used as a model system for the binding analysis between small natural ligands, cAMP and cAMP analogues, with their physiological interaction partner, the regulatory subunit of PKA.
Chemical-Free Lysis and Fractionation of Cells by Use of Surface Acoustic Waves for Sensitive Protein Assays
Ali Salehi-Reyhani,Frank Gesellchen,Dileep Mampallil,Rab Wilson,Julien Reboud,Oscar Ces,Keith R. Willison,Jon Cooper,David R. Klug +8 more
TL;DR: The methods described here are amenable to an integrated point-of-care device for the assessment of tumor protein expression in fine needle aspirate biopsies and are capable of sensitive quantification of proteins with a dynamic range >4 orders of magnitude.
