A robotic catheter system includes a controller with a master input device. An instrument driver is in communication with the controller and has a guide instrument interface including a plurality of guide instrument drive elements responsive to control signals generated, at least in part, by the master input device. An elongate guide instrument has a base, distal end, and a working lumen, wherein the guide instrument base is operatively coupled to the guide instrument interface. The guide instrument includes a plurality of guide instrument control elements operatively coupled to respective guide drive elements and secured to the distal end of the guide instrument. The guide instrument control elements are axially moveable relative to the guide instrument such that movement of the guide instrument distal end may be controlled by the master input device.

The method facilitates generating a number of candidate passages from the corpus that answer an input query, and finds the correct resulting answer by collecting supporting evidence from the multiple passages. By analyzing all retrieved passages and that passage's metadata in parallel, there is generated an output plurality of data structures including candidate answers based upon the analyzing. Then, by each of a plurality of parallel operating modules, supporting passage retrieval operations are performed upon the set of candidate answers, and for each candidate answer, the data corpus is traversed to find those passages having candidate answer in addition to query terms. All candidate answers are automatically scored causing the supporting passages by a plurality of scoring modules, each producing a module score. The modules scores are processed to determine one or more query answers; and, a query response is generated for delivery to a user based on the one or more query answers.

The computer system, given a collection of textual documents, automatically generates collections of questions about the documents together with answers to those questions. In particular, such a process can be applied to the so called ‘open’ domain, where the type of the corpus is not given in advance, and neither is the ontology of the corpus. The system improves the exploring of large bodies of textual information. This selected ranking function is applied to the each of the candidate answers to determine a ranking for the candidate answer based on the scores for that candidate answer. One or more of the candidate answers is selected, based on the rankings for the candidate answers, as one or more answers to the input query. In an embodiment, the ranking function selection is performed using information about the question. In an embodiment, the ranking function selection is performed using information about each answer.

Providing answers to questions using multiple models to score candidate answers

The system includes middleware software that can be used in combination with structured data tools to perform analysis on both structured and unstructured data. Data can be read from a wide variety of unstructured sources. The data may then be transformed with commercial data transformation products that may, for example, extract individual pieces of data and determine relationships between the extracted data. The transformed data and relationships may then be passed through an extraction/transform/load (ETL) layer and placed in a structured schema. The structured schema may then be made available to commercial or proprietary structured data analysis tools.

A semi-automatic construction method for knowledge base of an encyclopedia question answering system of the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) designing structure of the knowledge base with a plurality of templates for each entry and a plurality attributes related to each of the templates; (b) extracting structured information including the entry, an attribute name and attribute values from summary information of the encyclopedia; (c) extracting unstructured information including an attribute name and attribute values of the entry from a body of the encyclopedia; and (d) storing the structured information and the unstructured information in corresponding template and attribute of the knowledge base according to the entry.
