A method and apparatus for network-based sales force automation are provided that meet objectives of increasing sales and marketing efficiency and efficiency of technical and customer support by providing multi-dimensional displays of transactional information to users. Transactional information of deals, contacts, accounts, and leads is provided over the Internet using a Web browser. The information of related transactions is electronically linked, and the transactional information is electronically searchable using custom profiles. The transactional information is accessed and shared among host organization members according to a hierarchy and predefined territories. A Radar Screen Opportunity Display (RSOD) may be selected on which deal objects are displayed that represent the stages in a sales pipeline of corresponding deals. New business information may be selected, wherein automatic notification is provided of new information and changed information relating to transactions, wherein the new business information comprises information on at least one monitored customer Web site. A communication capability is provided that comprises electronic mail, facsimile, telephones, and paging devices, wherein communication is automatically established using transactional information.

A decision support system for the management of an agile supply chain that provides an architecture including a server side and a client side. The server side includes a decision support system database that interfaces with model engine that performs analysis of the data to support planning decisions. The server side includes a server manager that coordinates requests for service and information. The client side includes decision frames that present the various view points available in the system to the users. A frame manager coordinates the requests from decision support frames to access the needed data and models. The decision support frames provide a view into supply chain and integrate analytical models responsive to the view point of a business process such as demand management. The frames include a supply management frame, a demand management frame, a vendor managed replenishment frame, a Planning, Sales and Inventory planning frame and a distribution network design frame. The model engine includes a component procurement policy development module, a finished goods distribution network design module, an aggregate production planning module, a finished goods inventory management module, a sales forecasting and planning module, a market data analysis module, a vendor managed replenishment module and various utilities such as generic linear programming solvers and statistical analysis routines. The system also includes a demand and supply reconciliation process reconciling production, sales and inventory and reconciling a top-down forecast with a bottom-up forecast where an expert based model is used for the bottom-up forecast. A capacity planning process determines the feasibility of a capacity plan responsive to supply constraints. A vendor managed replenishment process plans inventory replenishment analysis and periods responsive to predicted sales and supply constraints. A scenario management process associated with all frames enables the user to analyze different hypothetical scenarios for comparison of business plans. The frame manager includes a system integrator and a functional integrator. A database management system manages the supply and maintenance of information needed by the modeling processes through the frame manager. A domain management process limits data available to said frames responsive to a user selection.

The method and apparatus meets objectives of increasing sales and marketing efficiency and efficiency of technical and customer support by providing a multi-dimensional display of event information to a user. As such, a radar screen-like presentation of data is generated that allows the user to see a visual representation of the best prospective opportunities based on the strategic business importance of an event. The method and apparatus functions by determining at least one event to be displayed and generating for graphical display an event object and label corresponding to the event. The radial location of the event object on the display is related to the stage of the particular corresponding event. The location of the event object on the display can also be indicative of other characteristics of the corresponding event. Each event object has variable size, color, and shape, all of which are indicative of characteristics of the corresponding event. In addition, a displayed event object may have an object tail which is indicative of characteristics of the corresponding event. The radar screen-like display may be comprised of sectors, and the location of an event object in a particular sector is indicative of a characteristic of the corresponding event. Each event object provides an electronic link to detailed information about the corresponding event.

The multiple model framework of the present invention enables users to compare statistical algorithms paired with various history streams (collectively referred to as “models”) so as to run various simulations and evaluate which model will provide the best forecast for a particular product in a given market. Once the user has decided upon which model it will use, it can publish forecast information provided by that model for use by its organization (such as by a downstream supply planning program). Embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method whereby appropriate demand responses can be dynamically forecasted whenever given events occur, such as when a competitor lowers the price on a particular product (such as for a promotion), or when the user's company is launching new sales and marketing campaigns. Preferred embodiments of the present invention use an automatic tuning feature to assist users in determining optimal parameter settings for a given forecasting algorithm to produce the best possible forecasting model.

A method for prospective planning and dynamic management of a flow processes comprising a plurality of interrelated and interdependant processes, resources and commodity flows using a computer system. The method includes providing a database containing information about the flow process and graphically displaying both the problem and the solution spatially and/or temporally. Indicia can be made to appear on the display to provide visual identification of symbols as well information about the solution, capacity, minimum levels, flows and variances. In addition, access to the data base can be made available either to update the display to reflect current information or to perform "what-if" scenarios. Access to the database is through objects displayed and permits a wide variety of information to be queried and displayed. The system also has the capability to communicate portions or all of the plan to other modules and to receive data from other modules.
