Mean Lagrangian flow behavior on an open coast rip-channeled beach: A new perspective
Jamie MacMahan,Jeff Brown,Jenna Brown,Edward B. Thornton,Ad Reniers,Ad Reniers,Timothy P. Stanton,M. Henriquez,E. L. Gallagher,Jon Morrison,Martin Austin,Tim Scott,Nadia Senechal +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a fleet of 30 position-tracking surfzone drifters were deployed on an open coast beach in Monterey, CA during multiple rip current occurrences, and the authors measured spatially synoptic estimates of rip current flow patterns, vorticity, and Lagrangian transport behavior.

Surf zone surface retention on a rip-channeled beach
Ad Reniers,Ad Reniers,Jamie MacMahan,Edward B. Thornton,Timothy P. Stanton,M. Henriquez,Jeff Brown,Jenna Brown,Jenna Brown,E. L. Gallagher +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the retention of floating matter within the surf zone on a rip-channeled beach is examined with a combination of detailed field observations obtained during the Rip Current Experiment and a three-dimensional (3-D) wave and flow model.
The ECORS-Truc Vert’08 nearshore field experiment: presentation of a three-dimensional morphologic system in a macro-tidal environment during consecutive extreme storm conditions
Nadia Senechal,Stéphane Abadie,E. L. Gallagher,Jamie MacMahan,Gerd Masselink,Hervé Michallet,Ad Reniers,Ad Reniers,B. Gerben Ruessink,Paul Russell,Damien Sous,Ian L. Turner,Fabrice Ardhuin,Philippe Bonneton,Stéphane Bujan,Sylvain Capo,Raphaël Certain,Rodrigo Pedreros,Thierry Garlan +18 more
TL;DR: A large multi-institutional nearshore field experiment was conducted at Truc Vert, on the Atlantic coast of France in early 2008 as mentioned in this paper, to measure beach change on a long, sandy stretch of coast without engineering works with emphasis on large winter waves.
Grain size variability on a rip-channeled beach
TL;DR: In this article, a mobile digital imaging system (DIS) was developed for surveying spatial and temporal variation in grain size across a beach following the ideas of Rubin (2004), using an off-the-shelf camera and underwater housing, macro photographs are taken of sand across a coastline, which produce estimates of mean grain size that are highly correlated with estimates from sieves.

Prediction skill of nearshore profile evolution models
TL;DR: In this article, the hindcast prediction skill of a beach profile evolution model has been evaluated using bathymetric observations obtained at Duck, North Carolina, and the model included coupling and feedback between evolving bathymetry, wave-averaged hydrodynamics, and parameterized cross-shore sediment transport.
