François-Xavier Weill,Daryl Domman,Daryl Domman,Elisabeth Njamkepo,Abdullrahman A. Almesbahi,Mona Naji,Samar Saeed Nasher,Ankur Rakesh,Abdullah M. Assiri,Naresh Chand Sharma,Samuel Kariuki,Mohammad Reza Pourshafie,Jean Rauzier,Abdinasir Abubakar,Jane Y. Carter,Joseph F. Wamala,Caroline Seguin,Christiane Bouchier,Thérèse E. Thomson,Nicholas R. Thomson,Marie Laure Quilici +30 more
TL;DR: The epidemic in Yemen is linked to global radiations of pandemic V. cholerae and it is shown that this sublineage originated from South Asia and that it caused outbreaks in East Africa before appearing in Yemen, and is susceptible to several commonly used antibiotics as well as to polymyxins.
Genomic plasticity associated with antimicrobial resistance in Vibrio cholerae
Jyoti Verma,Satyabrata Bag,Bipasa Saha,Pawan Kumar,Tarini Shankar Ghosh,Mayanka Dayal,Tarosi Senapati,Seema Mehra,Prasanta Kumar Dey,Anbumani Desigamani,Dhirendra Kumar,P. Rana,Bhoj Kumar,Tushar Kanti Maiti,Naresh Chand Sharma,Rupak K. Bhadra,Ankur Mutreja,Ankur Mutreja,G. Balakrish Nair,Thandavarayan Ramamurthy,Bhabatosh Das,Bhabatosh Das +21 more
TL;DR: The findings provided insights into the genomes of recent cholera isolates and identified several acquired traits including plasmids, transposons, integrative conjugative elements (ICEs), pathogenicity islands (PIs), prophages, and gene cassettes that confer fitness to the pathogen.

Foodborne Pathogenic Vibrios: Antimicrobial Resistance.
TL;DR: The emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Vibrios is increasingly common across the globe and a decrease in the effectiveness of commonly available antibiotics poses a global threat to public health as mentioned in this paper.
Spatiotemporal persistence of multiple, diverse clades and toxins of Corynebacterium diphtheriae.
Robert C. Will,Thandavarayan Ramamurthy,Naresh Chand Sharma,Balaji Veeraraghavan,Lucky Sangal,Pradeep Haldar,Agila Kumari Pragasam,Karthick Vasudevan,Dhirendra Kumar,Bhabatosh Das,Eva Heinz,Vyacheslav Melnikov,Stephen Baker,Vartul Sangal,Gordon Dougan,Ankur Mutreja,Ankur Mutreja +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the genomic variation of 502 C. diphtheriae isolates across 16 countries and territories over 122 years and generate a core gene phylogeny and determine the presence of antimicrobial resistance genes and variation within the tox gene of 291 tox+ isolates.
Characterization of Vibrio cholerae O1 strains that trace the origin of Haitian-like genetic traits.
Priyanka Ghosh,Dhirendra Kumar,Goutam Chowdhury,Puneeta Singh,Prosenjit Samanta,Shanta Dutta,Thandavarayan Ramamurthy,Neera Sharma,Preety Sinha,Yogendra Prasad,Sumio Shinoda,Asish K. Mukhopadhyay +11 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates the sequential accumulation of Haitian-like genetic traits among V. cholerae O1 strains in Delhi at different time points prior to the Haitian cholera outbreak.
