A phase II baseline versus treatment study to determine the efficacy of raltegravir (Isentress) in preventing progression of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis as determined by gadolinium-enhanced MRI: The INSPIRE study
Julian Gold,Julian Gold,Monica Marta,Ute C. Meier,Tove Christensen,David Miller,Daniel R. Altmann,David Holden,Lucia Bianchi,Rocco Adiutori,David G. MacManus,Tarek A. Yousry,Klaus Schmierer,Benjamin Turner,Gavin Giovannoni +14 more
TL;DR: Raltegravir did not have any impact on MS disease activity, and interesting correlations between HERV-W markers, EBV shedding and new MRI lesions, independent from treatment effects, were found.

Epstein Barr virus shedding in multiple sclerosis: similar frequencies of EBV in saliva across separate patient cohorts
David Holden,Julian Gold,Christopher Hawkes,Gavin Giovannoni,John M. Saxton,Anouska Carter,Basil Sharrack +6 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that EBV lytic activity in a subject cannot be inferred from a single measure of EBV in saliva, and subjects do not appear to be behave constantly as "EBV shedders" or "non-shedders".

CSF neurofilament light chain testing as an aid to determine treatment strategies in MS.
Saúl Reyes,Ide Smets,David Holden,Karina Carrillo-Loza,Tatiana Christmas,Lucia Bianchi,Francesca Ammoscato,Benjamin Turner,Monica Marta,Klaus Schmierer,Gavin Giovannoni,Sharmilee Gnanapavan +11 more
TL;DR: Elevated CSF NfL levels were the only indicator of disease activity in a subset of patients, which was more pronounced in patients with PMS, which had an impact on EDSS outcomes at 1 year.

Factors contributing to CSF NfL reduction over time in those starting treatment for multiple sclerosis: an observational study
I. Smets,I. Smets,David Holden,Lucia Bianchi,Francesca Ammoscato,K. Allen-Philbey,K. Allen-Philbey,David Baker,Benjamin Turner,Monica Marta,Monica Marta,Gavin Giovannoni,Gavin Giovannoni,Amy MacDougall,Klaus Schmierer,Klaus Schmierer,Jeremy Hobart,Sharmilee Gnanapavan,Sharmilee Gnanapavan +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the patient and treatment-related factors that influence CSF NfL before and after starting treatment and found that factors reflecting early disease stage, including a younger age, lower disability and relapsing MS were associated with treatment response in CSF nfL.
