A unified communications appliance provides integration of various types of information, regardless of the modality, in a common, centralized interface where the various types of information are grouped based on what they are related to. For example, as is common with most modalities of information exchange, there exists a “subject” that is present in one of the fields of communication. The ability to associate all of the types of communication with a common “subject” (or conversation) and provide an interface that allows access to the various types of information, regardless of the modality is provided by the unified communications interface.

A data processing system composites graphics content, generated by an application program running on the data processing system, to generate image data. The data processing system stores the image data in a first framebuffer and displays an image generated from the image data in the first framebuffer on an internal display device of the data processing system. A scaler in the data processing system performs scaling operations on the image data in the first framebuffer, stores the scaled image data in a second framebuffer and displays an image generated from the scaled image data in the second framebuffer on an external display device coupled to the data processing system. The scaler performs the scaling operations asynchronously with respect to the compositing of the graphics content. The data processing system automatically mirrors the image on the external display device unless the application program is publishing additional graphics content for display on the external display device.

Directing a video player to a video source is disclosed. An indication that a client requires video streaming instructions is received. A past download performance for a plurality of clients that or correlated to the client requiring video streaming instructions is determined. At least one of: a content source, and a bitrate, is selected, based at least in part on the determined past download performance of the plurality of correlated clients. The client is provided with instructions based at least in part on the selection.

Some content players use manifest files to obtain and play video content. The manifest files include metadata information for obtaining video chunks that together constitute a full video, and can be used by content players to obtain the chunks, stitch them together, and render the video as a stream. Described herein are techniques for dynamically generating manifest files. A request for a manifest file is received, such as from a video player. Manifest file contents are retrieved, such as from an original manifest file. A manifest file to be used by a video player to fetch video chunks is then dynamically generated and returned.

In one example, a method of monitoring media content in a web page loads a web page containing a media player and media content, processes an image of the web page to determine a control associated with the media player, and monitors the media content based on the control.

There includes: capturing audio data; capturing full motion video data; collecting the data in a single file; chroma-keying and masking the full motion video data; including the mask in the single file; storing the single file; providing a calling module that calls playback of the single file; providing the single file over the network; and playing the single file in a browser layer. Playing the single file includes displaying the full motion video data over a functional webpage. Displaying the full motion video data includes a first mode, obscuring a functional portion of a webpage, and a second mode, not obscuring a functional portion of a webpage. The triggering event includes a browser executing the webpage program module, and a user action selected from the group: closing a browser window, moving an indicator over a display, and actuating a display.
