ULF geomagnetic power at cusp latitudes in response to upstream solar wind conditions
TL;DR: In this article, the results of multivariate analyses between geomagnetic energies and upstream solar wind quantities show that the most important quantity in controlling the magnitude of the field fluctuations is the solar wind speed, with the IMF Bz component being of next importance.

Scientific results from the Viking ultraviolet imager: An introduction
C. D. Anger,J. S. Murphree,A. Vallance Jones,R. A. King,A. L. Broadfoot,L. L. Cogger,F. Creutzberg,R. L. Gattinger,G. Gustafsson,F. R. Harris,James W. Haslett,E. J. Llewellyn,D. J. McConnell,D. J. McEwen,E. H. Richardson,Gordon Rostoker,Bill R. Sandel,Gordon G. Shepherd,D. Venkatesan,D. D. Wallis,Georg Witt +20 more
TL;DR: The Ultraviolet Imager on the Viking Spacecraft provides global images of the aurora in both night and day hemispheres at rates of up to three per minute as discussed by the authors.

Periodic auroral forms and geomagnetic field oscillations in the 1400 MLT region
Thomas A. Potemra,H. Vo,D. Venkatesan,L. L. Cogger,Robert E. Erlandson,L. J. Zanetti,P. F. Bythrow,Brian J. Anderson +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the magnetic field and hot plasma measurements obtained with the Viking satellite often show bright features which resemble "beads" or "pearls" aligned in the east-west direction between noon and 1800 MLT.

Dayside auroral intensifications during an auroral substorm
A. T. Y. Lui,D. Venkatesan,Gordon Rostoker,J. S. Murphree,C. D. Anger,L. L. Cogger,Thomas A. Potemra +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the dayside and nightside auroral luminosity during substorm activity on October 15, 1986 using images obtained by the ultraviolet (UV) imager on board the Viking spacecraft, and found that the intensity and dynamic behavior of localized auroral emissions around the 14 MLT sector can be comparable to that found for nightside discrete arc structure seen during auroral breakup conditions.

Transmission of solar wind hydromagnetic energy into the terrestrial magnetosphere
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship of hydromagnetic energy in the band approx.20-50 mHz, as measured on the ground near a dayside magnetopause field line, to the magnitude of the interplanetary magnetic fields (IMF).
