Cold-water corals in the Cap de Creus canyon, northwestern Mediterranean: spatial distribution, density and anthropogenic impact
TL;DR: In this paper, the occurrence and density of three cold-water coral (CWC) species (Madrepora oculata, Lophelia pertusa and Dendrophyllia cornigera) were investigated in the Cap de Creus canyon (north- western Mediterranean) by conducting and analysing 22 video survey transects.
Climate‐induced changes in the suitable habitat of cold‐water corals and commercially important deep‐sea fishes in the North Atlantic

TL;DR: The results emphasize the need to understand how anticipated climate change will affect the distribution of deep‐sea species including commercially important fishes and foundation species, and highlight the importance of identifying and preserving climate refugia for a range of area‐based planning and management tools.
Are Antarctic suspension-feeding communities different from those elsewhere in the world?
TL;DR: Reviewing the trophic ecology of benthic suspension feeders in Antarctic shelf communities, studied within SCAR's EASIZ Programme, in comparison with published information from other seas finds alternative food sources may play a significant role in the development of suspension-feeder dominated, very diversified, high biomass and three-dimensionally structured communities on the Antarctic shelf.

Bathymetrical distribution and size structure of cold-water coral populations in the Cap de Creus and Lacaze-Duthiers canyons (northwestern Mediterranean)
Andrea Gori,Covadonga Orejas,Teresa Madurell,Lorenzo Bramanti,M. Martins,Elena Quintanilla,Patricia Marti-Puig,C. Lo Iacono,Pere Puig,Susana Requena,Michael Greenacre,Josep Maria Gili +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the cold-water coral communities in two westernmost submarine canyons of the Gulf of Lions canyon system: the Cap de Creus Canyon (CCC) and Lacaze-Duthiers Canyon (LDC).
First evidence for zooplankton feeding sustaining key physiological processes in a scleractinian cold-water coral.
TL;DR: Evidence is shown for the trophic significance of zooplankton, essentially sustaining levels of the investigated key physiological processes in the cosmopolitan CWC Desmophyllum dianthus, with further implications for the role of CWC as deep-sea reef ecosystem engineers.
