A novel alloy is disclosed which is characterized by high resistance to wear and corrosion. The alloy consists essentially of 2 to 25% chromium, 5 to 30% molybdenum, 3 to 15% tungsten, 2 to 8% copper, 2 to 8% boron, and 0.2 to 2% carbon; the balance being incidental impurities and at least 30% of a metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt and combinations thereof, with the total of molybdenum and tungsten being at least 16%. The alloy is preferably in the form of a powder for thermal spraying, and coating produced thereby generally have an amorphous structure.

Corrosion and wear resistant alloy

Metallic glass / amorphous metal electrodes produced by rapid solidification (i) having a structure that is either amorphous or nanocrystalline, (ii) containing the principal alloying element as Ni, (iii) containing alloying additions of Co and at least one member of group IVB, VB, VIB, VIIB and/or VIIIB, preferably Cr and V, in the range of 0 to 20 at. %, and when combined with Ni, represent 0.75 to 0.85 of the atomic fraction of the alloy, and (iv) containing metalloid elements comprised preferably of one or more of the elements C, B, Si and P either singly or in combination to represent 0.15 to 0.25 atomic faction of the alloy. The electrodes have excellent thermal stability, improved stability in an aqueous electrolyte and can provide improved current efficiency - anodic overpotential performance. They are used in the electrolysis of aqueous electrolyte solutions such as mixtures of caustic and water in the production of oxygen and hydrogen.

Amorphous metal/metallic glass electrodes for electrochemical processes

A process is disclosed for brazing plate/plate and plate/fin multi-channeled structures using an amorphous brazing foil as a brazing filler metal between the parts in order to form uniform joints having optimal dimensions, shape and strength. The parts are assembled in an unconstrained stack, and a controlled load is applied to the top of the stack. The stack is then heated to a temperature at which the interlayer melts and reacts with the base metal to form the joints. The stack is cooled resulting in a brazed structure having the desired characteristics, wherein the strength of the structure is equal to the underlying strength of the base metal.

Process for manufacturing of brazed multi-channeled structures

Ni-based solder for high temperature soldering contains in at% 55-15 Mo; 0-12Si; 0-19B; 0-22P; 0-25 Cr,Fe and/or Co; 0-5 Mn,Cu,Nb,Zr and/or Ti; balance Ni. The total of B+P+Si, is 12-24. USE/ADVANTAGE: Used for soldering steel and Ni super alloys. The solder has a high liquidus temp and a small difference between liquid:us and solidus temps which makes it ideal for soldering thin components such as foil. The Mo content increases the soldering temp with an unchanged metallised content or maintains the same soldering temperature whilst lowering the metallised content which improves the corrosion resistant properties of the solder joint

A method of brazing stainless steel components to form a complex shape such as an impeller. The method includes the steps of providing the stainless steel components shaped and formed from a selected stainless steel alloy; providing a brazing alloy having a selected composition and compatibility with stainless steel; heating the stainless steel components and brazing alloy for a controlled time to a liquidus temperature to effect brazing; cooling the stainless steel components and brazing alloy to a quench temperature substantially lower than the liquidus temperature of the brazing alloy to provide a tensile strength of greater than about 20 Ksi in the brazing alloy; and quenching the assembly from the quench temperature to a temperature of less than about 400° F. in a given time to provide a brazed assembly free of distortion and cracks with desired mechanical properties in the stainless steel components by virtue of the thermal treatment.

Method of brazing and article made therefrom

Metal parts are brazed by means of an amorphous filler metal foil. The brazing foil, useful for brazing stainless steels, has a composition consisting essentially of about 0-10 atom percent iron, about 0-20 atom percent chromium, about 3-5 atom percent molybdenum, about 5-35 atom percent cobalt, about 14-19 atom percent boron and the balance nickel and icidental impurities. The ductile foil permits fabrication of preforms of complex shapes which do not require binders and/or fluxes necessary for brazing powders presently used to braze stainless steels and nickel base alloys, and exhibits excellent braze-metal and high-temperature strengths.
